EDMOND, Okla. -- A championship showing at the recent NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals made Nebraska-Omaha the unanimous No. 1 team in the NCAA Division II wrestling poll that was announced Wednesday by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
The Mavericks earned all eight first-place votes in balloting of coaches from around the country to finish with 160 points and remain atop the poll. UNO has been No. 1 in all four rankings this season and solidified its position with a four-match run at the National Duals on Jan. 10-11, capped by a 23-19 finals win over Newberry (S.C.).
Newberry had 151 points and stayed No. 2, while Minnesota State-Mankato switched places with Nebraska-Kearney after a 19-16 victory over the Antelopes in the third-place match at the National Duals.
Seven-time Division II champion Central Oklahoma is fifth, with Western State (Colo.), Adams State (Colo.), Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.), Upper Iowa and Mercyhurst (Pa.) rounding out the top 10.

Just looking at the rankings here, how is a wrestler ranked in the top 5 with a record around 19-10? Is DII that watered down?

Depends on who you lose to and who you beat. If you have one loss in DII and have beat 3 ranked ahead of you then you will be ranked high. Also if two of those losses are at opens to 30 somethings then its not held against you. Then defeat the #1 guy in NAIA and the number 2 guy in DII and you will be ranked. It helps if your team wins the national dual and you beat two returning All Americans to spark the title run in front of the same coaches that vote.

BTW 20 wins now with 12-4 md tonight over returning NQ who was 15-0 in duals last year. It's all in who you beat or lose to.
