Been doing some thinking...
I was watching the NCAA's today and it got me thinking, shouldn't a techfall be worth more (team points) than a fall? I think a tech fall is alot more challenging and takes way more effort than a pin. Anyone can get caught and pinned but teching them is another story. What do you guys think?

At this time of year(D1 Nationals) I'm always thinking,.....
I think about the odds of a wrestler too achieve D1 All American status...(Or at any college level for that matter) I think about the odds of a wrestler to become a D1 National Champ... I think about how hard these young men have to work and how much time they, and their families, have to put in to become an "AA"... I think about all the great wrestlers who come up short... I think why do these guys put themselves threw this and beat their bodies up... I think about all the sacrifices it took to get where they are at today... I wonder how the seniors feel when it's over... And for what it's worth... pinning someone should always be worth more teams points. Putting someone too their back and holding them there is no easy task... |

Win by decision Win by fall Tie (only broken in tournaments) The object of th esport was to earn the fall. We made things more complicated by giving a variety of options. WRFAN99, the original method would alleviate the problems that you envision. TechFall, the rule allowing technical falls weakens the sport and puts wrestlers at the disadvantage. Work for the fall and keep wrestling or stall out. That makes things simple. |

If not more at least the same 6 points. You can get lucky and get a pin...but the same cannot be said for a tech fall.

15 years or so ago it was that way (at least in college). A decision was worth 3 points, a major decision (8-11 point margin) was worth 4, a superior decision (12-14 point margin) was worth 5 and a fall (actual or technical) was worth 6. They got rid of the superior and downgraded the TF because too many wrestlers stopped working for actual falls and were content to do the take down and release stuff.
The purpose of wrestling is to pin your opponent. Anything else should not be worth as much. |
