Is it legal?

I have a question. Is it legal to have a wrestler/coach at the college level, kinda like Bill Russell did for the Celtics. If possible, I see Dustin Schlatter, Metcalf, or Caldwell as great candidates for the U of I head coaching job.

Legal isn't the issue.

First, the position requires a bachelor's degree because of University and state rules.

Second, there is a big difference between being a competitor and being a coach.

These conversations are all very interesting, but I am quite certain Ron Guenther won't be looking at Illinois Matmen to get ideas for filling the job.

So, I guess we should just stop talking about it and speculating right now.

If you want to, that's up to you. I didn't say anything like that. In fact, I said the conversations were interesting. I was just contrasting the considerations that drive these posts with those that Guenther will use to actually fill the spot.

Yea... and since the winners are decided on the mat... we should stop debating about who is going to win the NCAA's.

How about Guenther cleans house.... then he hires Mike Powell, Mike Denney, and Jake Herbert as a package deal? 3 head coaches.

I think the overwhelming majority of posters realize that the opinions that they state on a public message board are not directly fed to Ron Guenther's Blackberry, but for those who didn't know, thank you Captain Obvious.

Nelson,
I decided that after ohio states success with GL.... I might just start sending group emails to the Illini staff.

Tell me this Wit*0.5, has anyone talked about administering a program, or marketing, or fundraising? All of these will be on Ron Guenther's interview list, but I haven't seen a word of them on this board. That's the kind of thing I was getting at.

By the way, are you a jackass in person, or is that just a persona you adopt for the message board?

Wow

I think you are confusing "training partner" with Div I Head Coach (with all sorts of legal responsibilities such as administering a six-figure budget, supervising and evaluating employees, etc., etc.). The wrestlers you mentioned are UNDERGRADUATE students (i.e., taking college courses...though occasionally some are nominally graduate students); the Div I Head Coach, in a business sense, is basically a program manager.

Wow
