Poeta will most likely continue to train for Worlds/Olympics in Champaign.

The press conference was short and to the point. Heffernan is a man of few words. But intensely credible. Glad to see that he mentioned Perry. Sounds like they are on the same page. Wouldn't be surprised to see Perry slide into a role like Heff has for a number of years to come. Heffernan is a Great Choice.

It is open, and Hunter is applying. I'm sure there will be a lot of interest from outside as well.

I'll have the audio from the press conference and interviews with Kennedy and Blanton posted online later this afternoon. Heffernan will also be a guest on Steve Kelly's Sportstalk show on WDWS in Champaign at 5:15 pm today. That audio will be available here after 6 pm:

I'll post the link to the interviews and press conference once it's available.

it seems to me that this was a no brainer, the only way i could have seen heff not getting the job, is if he did not want it. i thought hunter was already part of the staff

Thanks Brian (Moline) for all your updates. Always great to have a wrestling fan that recieves sports news releases in Champaign.

Thanks again!

I think Hunter was paid through the boosters or some other outside source. Pretty sure this is common for most larger programs. University has 3 official positions but people like Hunter or some of the guys who stay around and train like Matt Lackey or Adam Tirapelle can get some money from the Boosters.

This was my hope: Hef, with Perry staying on, Hunter applying for the Second Assistant position, and Mike Poeta continuing to train in Champaign. That's just chock full of good Illini news! Also, recruits can know what they are getting, and the guys on the team are already comfortable with the coaching staff!

GO ILLINI!!!
