gl ... i don't know too much of the wrestlers metion above, but I'm going to assume they're first team all-american top recruits in their class. With that said... you can't predict these kids would have gone to U of I if U of I would hired one of the coaches you feel is a better fit! Wrestlers pick schools for various reason aside from wreslting for a good program, academics, location, campus, social scene, athletics, girls, partying, etc. Point being there are other things important in life aside from wrestling. You're knocking U of I for not building the dream of college wrestling, which is unrealistic expectation!! at the end of day U of I has been a top 15 program in the nation year over year since johnson and heff took over and will continue to do so. You can't acheive this type of success without good solid recruting, which you believe they fail to do so! you probably going to day "well they struggle to attract the top #1 recruits in the country" well that's relative speaking, moreover it's extremely hard for all program to get these blue chippers, unless of course you're John Smith, Iowa, or Cael Sanderson. U of I is a successful wrestling program... let it go and accept it!!!

gl, you have picked the wrong day to pick on Illinois...anytime there is a new hire in any sport optimism runs high. And then for you to come on an Illinois site and say that on Day One Heff was an okay choice but they should of got so and so is just gonna piss people off. And then to follow that up with this kid and that kid is great and this is what Illinois needs to be better is just as bad. First all of those kids from Steiber to Palmer to Clark have yet to win a college match. No matter who you were in h.s. everyone starts new in college. Until they win a title I don't think they can be looked upon as Illinois saviors that got away. And some kids want to get away. Every kid does not want to stay in-state. That is a fact.
Most programs can only afford to have so many out of state kids on their scholarship roster because of financial constraints. 2-3 at the most if that many. I say give Heff a chance. You can't say what he can't do because he has not coached a match yet. He just might be the next Tom Ryan or Brands. Or he might just become the next Heff. |

Yes I agree hellickson was dum for not doing it. Johnson got some good Ohio kids in Ott and jAYNE and they got Sam White. Hopefully they get some more so they can crack the top 5 more often

Yes zbcoach I listen to evrything they say on the message boards. That is why I believe and persuaded that wrestling in new york was 20x tougher in the 70's than it is now
