Obama At Notre Dame

I heard that he said that both groups, pro abortion and anti-abortion, need to stop demonizing each other, and their viewpoints are irreconcilable. I thought his plan was winning everyone over to his side, not taking a middle ground. Isn't he the leader of his party, and the big decsion maker of the country? IMO, it seems like he just wanted to appease the crowd, rather than stick to his guns and speak his beliefs.

Any thoughts?

So you did not hear the speech for yourself? Well then it will be kind of hard to make any kind of definative statememt due to lack of knowledge of what was said!

I personally thought it was a great speech. He is one hell of a speaker. But I really feel that what he was saying is something that has been said for years and its simple, let people make up their own minds and stop trying to preasure people into following your ideas. People have to be able to make their own conscience decesions on what path their lives take and choices they make in those lives.

I agree with you ZBCOACH. I thought it was a very good speech. And you are right, what he said has been said for years and years. But people don't get it or listen. As the President said, "It's about talking to each other, not about shouting each other down or -- worse yet -- refusing to talk at all."

Your exactly right. I don't understand why pregnant women need to be criticized for smoking and drinking while they are pregnant. It's their body, if they want to get drunk for nine months who is it hurting anyway, just some fetus.

Yes compromise on the issue were sure make everybody happy, and I'm just curious, what is the compromise between life and death, there seems to be no middle ground. I love the saying about abortion, lets keep it safe, legal, and rare. Why rare? Is there something bad about abortion? If you feel the need to keep it rare, aren't you admitting that it is awful, otherwise you would want more of it, if it is such a great thing.

I found a few things interesting. He obviously believes in creation, and not evolution, he said this. "Your generation must decide how to save God's creation from a changing climate that threatens to destroy it" Not sure what the aclu would think of this had a Republican said it.

He also said he is a Christian, and was brought to Christ by people who were welcoming and understanding, who did great works that their faith inspired them to perform, and he goes on to talk about Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. After all that he ends up at Reverends Wright church for twenty years and listens to the most hateful anti-American crap that has ever come out of a preachers mouth.

What I don't understand is when did being in favor of a woman"s right to choose mean you were pro-abortion?

So I should just turn a blind eye to his hypocrisy? Politicians say of both parties say whatever they think their base wants them to hear. He had no plans to be a national figure, and that is why he was part of that church, because it helped him locally in politics. Now he doesn't even admit to that part of his life on the national stage, because he knows what a polarizing stance it would be.

Let it go? I hate it when people don't stand up for what they say they believe in. Do you really think he would talk about his Christian faith, and creation at some of his liberal events. However at Notre Dame he throws science out the window, and now speaks on the behalf of creation, and let's not even get into the separation of church and state. something his supporters are very big on. Obama was clearly talking about a Christian God at graduation.
