we agree
michael knows he has a lot of work to do in the off season. he,s going to be a young schoolboy. he wont turn 13 until august of this year. im sure a lot of his competition will be 14 going on 15. i agree its going to be tough for him, but dont count him out. you might be surprised? high school wont be any easier as he will just turn 14 and be a freshman the next day. ive never had the pleasure of meeting coach gonzales, but i am looking forward to it. i didnt know he knew so much of my sons accomplishments. were going to try and do our best to get ready for the season. we are going to wrestle the top kids in illinois throughout the season. he wants to wrestle in chicago and skip the tournaments close to home.

you are right pix. i do know a lot of his accomplishments. i know he won tulsa kickoff last year, i also know he was national champ last year at iowa. i know he walked right through state in freestyle. last but not least who can forget winning outstanding wrestler at folkstyle state this year in rockford. i never downed your son, all i said was that he would have a much more difficult time in the senior division this upcoming season. that was another poster with extra things to say.

It must be a Fox Valley thing to hold your son back from going to H.S. Swier, Gonzales, Almost Battaglia or who knows maybe him to. So Pix is going to have a tough year, why because he will be wrestling freshmen. LOL

After Brill...I think Sepke is pretty tough and should do well next year. If Gonzalez is back he will also beat tough to beat. Brill is by far my favorite IKWF wrestler, because his style is very similiar to the old Iowa high school wrestlers of the eighties. Lots of pressure...high crotch left, high crotch right and he never puts himself in a bad position. Not many kids in the IKWF hit high crotches, which is surprising to me because this is the first move that Dan Gable teaches at Iowa.
Pixley is very good, but I do not think he will dominate next year. |

I might be mistaken. I thought last year he won Novice Division State and this year Senior. I just assumed he had another Senior year left. Sorry for the error.

Ages for IKWF
My son has wrestled a number of the young men mentioned in this forum. I will admit he has lost to them, some quite embarrassingly. His birth date is May of 95 and his is going to HS next year. These are all very talented, hardworking wrestlers. Why would they (their parents????) feel the need to take a crack at another IKWF state championship. Why are kids being held back for the opportunity to excel at a sport that has 9.9 scholarships for 35+ man teams and no chance for the big bucks professionally? I guess I just can't understand why they wouldn't want to step up to the next level when given the opportunity. Needless to say, if they were truly held back for legitimate reasons (classroom maturity, academics, learning disabilty etc) none of this applies. I wonder how many parents would come out and admit that they actually held their son back for the sake of wrestling? My guess is much fewer than have done it.
