Team of the Decades!
Well, there is a thread right now about the best Illinois team within the decades and been a lot of discussion back and forth, and truly we will never know. So, decided to have a thread and wanted to get some opinions on what team has been the best over the decades. Consistently ranked, really don't have a bad season, qualifying for the dual team majority of the time. Has been in the race for a championship or has team titles over a long period of time. If I had to look at the history from my prespective, I have to go with Providence. I think Mahomet-Seymour, Granite City, and could name some others that would be in the discussion but wanted to see what people think. But definitely think Providence has the upper-hand.

1990's The first half goes to Mt. Carmel, these teams were great considering who was on the team with the likes of the Williams brothers, Davis, Blakely, Stonitsch, and Elliot. The second half to Providence had a just a powerhouse line up at the end of the 90's with Augle, Cumbee, Glynn, Kucala, Murray, Nuetzmann, Passolano, Reynolds, Ruggio, and Warren. This team had just a great ability to rack up pins and just really separate themselves from the pack during the late 90's.
2000's There are 2 teams you can go with. Sandburg and Montini, but in this situation I would lean more towards Sandburg, you have to go with the 2006 team that was very dominate that year and really left one heck of a mark as far as teams go.

Oh yeah, no question those were the teams of those period of times. But, that doesn't make for a dominant team over many many years. I don't care if a team won two or three back-to-back titles, if they're nowhere to be seen for years, can't even be a honorable mention, then can't be part of the discussion. I think it has to be judged upon what team is close to the top year after year, and they don't have to win, but who is right in there almost every year and covering a long period of time. Those teams were great during that period, but doesn't mean greatness of a program for many many years!

You got it, my bad, should've specified that a little better. Yeah, i'm just talking the best team in the last 40 years or so. Year in and year out being contenders. I guess it boils down to, what Highschool in Illinois has had the most success with longevity!

Gotta go with Glenbard North then. They have had studs for years and years. From the 70's thru the 2000's.

I have to agree with Glenbard North. They are consistently ranked in the top 5. They have a solid team every year. They have a couple of individuals in the semis every year and can compete with the state's best. When they have a down year it only lasts for a year and they are still ranked in the top ten in their doen years. I didn't/don't like Glenbard North but how can you not respect them?!

Carol Stream (Glenbard North) has performed well since the 1976-1977 school year. Their best success was from 1997 to the present. That is means that the greatest success occurred primarily during a 12-year period. To me, that does not speak to the consistency which is mentioned by formerwrestler. I must cast my ballot for Granite City. Their wrestling program has the following credentials:
76 consecutive years without a losing season Placed 6th in the initial state tournament (1937) 42 Sectional Championships (State Record) 17 consecutive Sectional Championships (State Record) 21 District Championships (State Record) 19 consecutive District Championships (State Record) 17 consecutive Regional Championships 30 Top 10 finishes in State Tourney Top 10 finishes in every decade since the 1930s. 1300+ Dual meet wins (State and National Record) 3 different coaches with 250 or more wins at the same school State record for the longest rivalry (Granite City vs. Belleville West) 103 matches since 1937 since 1937 Waukegan would be equally impressive, but they have not fared as well during the last 20 years. Waukegan was actually pretty solid in the 90s, they were atleast at team sectionals every year.
