Many people are under the misconception that people can ONLY get ringworm from wrestling. But the simple fact is, if you don't wash properly, and you have skin to skin contact with someone that has it, boom.
This may help a little more: https://health.google.com/health/ref/Ringworm

Our daughter had it when she was in preschool! Pediatrician said it's sometimes common in people with cats, too....For wrestling, we love the Kennedy body wash...buy it by the quart! |

it is found in cat feces. It can get on the bottom of a shoe, person touches the shoe, person touches another person etc...

My 5 year old grand daughter gets it at school. She has real sensitive skin and I don't think anyone in kindergarden is wrestling...

No, it's from pre-season wrestling, either practice or the borderwars tourney. It's a particularly nasty strain too. Very resitant to our initial treatment, had to go to the doc to get some serious anti-fungals. |

Normal flora
Not from other sports, rather people have many kinds of bacteria and fungi that live harmoniously on their skin and actually protect them from infection. However, if there is a change in the environment that favors one above the others, it will lead to a overgrowth (infection). Likewise, if there is a break in the outer layer the epidermis, even a microscopic one, it provides bacteria or fungus the opportunity to growth unfettered. People can carry the bacteria that cause impetigo or the fungi that causes ring worm without knowing it or having any symptoms or signs of infection. Certainly fungi can live for longer periods away from the body which is why people can pick it up from shoes, mats, etc. Washing up after practice or competition should be standard. I also like the various alcohol based treatments available in the wrestling foams. I also would not recommend stepping in cat feces and then rubbing your shoe on anyone. Bonecrusher, that killed me. Best laugh I had all day.
