Conant results
Folks, there is a new sheriff, er program in town. Marmion academy served notice that they are for for real. I had a feeling that this year Conant would be a 2-team race and it was...for second place!!!!! Marmion was solid, placing most of their team in the top 7 places at every weight easily outdistancing the field. OPRF put 4 in the finals and all of them won but it wasn't nearly enough to close the gap. Providence was 3rd.
Team scores: 1. Marmion Academy - 237.5 2. OPRF - 181 3. Providence - 169 4. GBN/SCH (tie) - 159.5 5. CLC - 158.5 Individuals: 103: John Gosinski GBN 6-2 over Ferguson PRO 112: Bellis BLM 14-8 over E. Greco MA 119: Whitford MA 11-3 over Klimara PRO 125: Ambrose PRO 11-1 over Rocha GBN 130: Gosinski GBN 3-2 over Silvestro MA 135: C. Dardanes OPRF 20-5 over Maynard SCE 140: N. Dardanes OPRF 18-3 over Bozarth NOR 145: P. Greco MA 3-0 over Servant CLC 152: Kielbasa CLC 11-1 over Cammons PE 160: S. Brooks OPRF WBF 2:33 over Loranger OF 171: Malik SCH 6-4 OT over Jiminez MA 189: Marsden CLC 9-2 over LaManna SCH 215: B. Brooks OPRF 14-5 over Marchok SCH 285: Glover PE 6-5 pver Buss DLS Most Outstanding: Whitford 119lbs MA The best match of the night was easily Whitford vs Klimara, the two best 119lbers in the state. Whitford dominated on his feet..he took it to Klimara and never let up, even scoring a TD and then two more back points on a tilt right at the end winning 11-3. The Whitford kid, a move in from Michigan is the real deal. It would seem that 2A Marmion is building a serious program, and from what I hear (some of the kids they are getting), they are going to be REALLY good next year...folks, this team is MOSTLY underclassmen!!!!

I agree with Marmion being tough. I think they were in better condition than anyone else there today except for the Oak Park boys. It will be fun to see how they develop as the season progresses.

They were very impressive. I have to hand it to Providence too, they did well minus all those football players.

I didn't pay any attention to the 5th and 7th place matches. Tougher PRO pinned Ruffino SCE for 3rd place at 130.

I would say so. He kept it all inside. I didn't see any disrespect whatsoever.

It's funny...Kiebler from Leyden is the 3rd ranked 215lber in the state but the best he could finish at Conant was...3rd place. Ben Brooks (189) dominated the tournament at 215. Go figure.

Rubino SCE WBF over Akram SCH. This was basically a 3 person division...after Whitford, Klimara and Rubino there wasn't much else...
