Jacob Curby, former Lyons wrestler, dies at 25

A true loss to the world.

Jacob Curby, a 25-year-old Greco-Roman wrestler with the U.S. national team, died Friday at his home in Boise, Idaho, according to a statement by USA Wrestling. Curby graduated from Lyons Township High School and Northern Michigan.
Curby was discovered non responsive at his home.
"Wrestling is his life and he was totally engaged in it," Dave Curby, his father, said in the statement. "He is a kid with many friends. He overcame so much in his life, with epilepsy and having cancer when he was in high school.
"It is a shock. We are always so proud of him in all aspects of his life. He only got great things from being involved with USA Wrestling at this level."
In high school, Curby was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma, a rare cancer. He underwent treatment; the disease went into remission and he began wrestling again.
Curby was the national team's third-ranked wrestler at 66 kg/145.5 pounds.
He had recently returned to Idaho after competing at the Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix in Russia.

We honored Curby with a moment of silence prior to the start of the OPRF tournament on Saturday (Lyons Township was in the tournament).

My sister also died at 25, it's just tragic for someone to die so young.
