Intermediate Elite Tourney
I'm looking to see if there would be interest in starting an Intermediate Elite Tournament that would run on the weekend following Midget State. The criteria would be that you would have to place top 3 in your sectional. Seeding would be similar to the IKWF state seeding for Novice and Senior divisions. The main purpose of this tournament would be to provide another option for Intermediate wrestlers besides Midget state which is, lets face it, an open tournament. The entry fees would be much lower than Midget State, and it would be held somewhere in Central Illinois. Please post if you would be interested in seeing such a tournament get started.

many kids and their families will be on Spring break.
Not to mention, you'd probably have greater interest if it was held closer to the Chicagoland area. |

I'll be very surprised if you generate much support for this.
I feel they have done a very good job with the midget/junior/intermediate "state" tournament over the years. I see no real burning need to make the kids in this age division qualify to it through sectionals. Also, some of the kids who participate in it wrestle up in the novice state series as a 10 year old, which would eliminate them from participating in it if they dont make it to Rockford. I say, keep it as is --- what I've seen over the years is that the toughest 9-10 year olds wrestle in it anyways --- are there some kids that probably don't belong there? sure --- but the same can be said of any state or "national" tournement as well. Plus, the IKWF season is dragged out too long anyways --- this would only make it longer --- most kids are ready to get to the next sport --- whether that is baseball or freestyle/greco wrestling. |
