North Suburban Honor Roll from Daily Herald

[ILWrestle]

Mike Garofola of the north suburb's Daily Herald is one of the hardest working high school wrestling journalists I know. We see him at nearly every tournament we work and he's well known by most coaches up north. Mike's been working hard at getting up-to-date records for many of the top wrestlers in northern Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties and yesterday published his "Honor Roll" in the Herald. This annual list always serves as a great indicator of what we might see coming out of the Barrington Sectional come February. Thanks Mike!

I think this list constitutes the North West Suburbs or the heart of the Herald's circulation. Both Deerfield and New Trier are more North Shore. Granted there are some strange schools in there, location wise, like Leyden or even us in South Elgin. But most of those schools are NW suburban.

...Except the list makes no sense. It has guys from CLS, but not CLC or Prairie Ridge.

Also missing is Richmond Burton and some others.

What's the ellipsis for? I didn't defend the list. Maybe circulation doesn't deliver to those parts of Crystal Lake? I was just guessing why North Shore schools weren't listed. Take it up with the author.

The Daily Herald does not cover all of McHenry County. If I'm not mistaken, PR, CLC, and RB are covered by the Northwest Herald. Perhaps those journalists maintain a similar honor roll for McHenry county? The Daily Herald also does not cover a lot of the north shore, as Coach Oliva points out.

As I'm sure you can guess, getting accurate records from EVERY school would be extremely difficult, for any journalist. You need cooperative head coaches who respond to emails to get up-to-date and accurate information. I know Mike sends out his requests to every school. To compile a list of this size, for this many schools is pretty impressive...at least to me. Great work Mike!

The reporter sent out an email last week asking for records of your wrestlers with a .500 record or better, so my best guess is those coaches did not email him back. Plain and simple!
