I am not sure he would qualify academically or mentally, but I would put Hubert Thompson in at HWT! I like the Zajac pick at 189! He finished 90-0 his last two years!

I don't know if I would change one person in that line-up. You'd have a tough time arguing any one of those all timers. Maybe Jehad but boy he was pretty good. Manganiello would have given him all he could handle.

Jimbob-Everyone you have listed were all phenominal wrestlers, but I would put Kurt Mammen and Geno Savegnago as the top 2 at 185-189lbs. Mammen was a 2x state champ, and Asic Tiger All-American in 1987 and a 4x All-American at Oklahoma State. Savegnago was a D2 National Champ, 4x D2 All-American and a 3x D1 All-American at Eastern Illinois at 190lbs. At HWT I have listed Carl Pressley because of his dominance in high school and at Junior Nationals against the nations best HWT's at that time. Pressley was a 2x Junior National Champ in Greco and placed 2nd in Freestyle to Kurt Angle who he beat previously at another tournament. Scott Trizzino was another phenominal wrestler who has not been mentioned. Trizzino was a multiple state champ, 3x D1 All-American and 2x finalist at the University of Iowa. 167-171lbs is a tough one, but I gave Rich Powers the edge over all the others, because he was a 2x state champ, placed 3rd as a sophomore and was a 3x All-American at Northern Iowa.
Seank1 - As far as Maganiello is concerned, he was a great wrestler, but had a cinderella state tournament in 1988. If I remember correctly he lost to Tom Salvino 3x's that year and also to Sherif Zegar. Maganiello beat Salvino in the semi-finals and Zegar in the state finals. Maganiello placed 2nd the following year (89) at HWT. My All-Time list is below.... 103-Mike Farina, Mark Pustelnik 105-Ed Giese 112-Jack Griffin 119-Tim Wright, Jeff Mirabella 125 Mike Mena 130-Steve Williams 132 Scott Trizzino 135-Joey Gilbert 140-TJ williams 145-Sean Bormet 152 John Kading 160-Joe Williams 167-Rich Powers 189-Kurt Mammen, Geno Savegnago hwt-Carl Pressley, John Gurka, Will Lepsi Last edited by Celticwrestling; 05-21-2012 at 06:09 PM. |
