Army Nationals
hello all,
i have been thinking of taking my 2 boys to this tournament and i had a couple questions for anyone who has attended in the past: How is the competion for a 9yr old around 100lbs.Also how is the competion for high schoolers?? i have looked at the past results and it seems as though the competion is better for the younger kids as opposed to older. Also,is it to late to register??can we register at the door or do i need to send in the form?I am still looking into our schedule and i dont know if i would be able to send it in,in time to get there before friday. thanks for any help ![]() |

Overall, well run tourney, decent facility, I would recommend it. My son has wrestled there at least 5 if not 6 years. |

nothing but a money grab
$40 to register at the door.
$7 to be allowed to coach. 1 minute periods for high schoolers. Weigh ins the night before (forces a hotel stay). Nice for the Bloomington economy, not nice for wrestling. Anybody who bashes USA Wrestling has to realize that without it, this is what we would be left with. |

There were at least 15 states represented today and as far as the hotel stay if it's that far that you would have to stay then in my opinion I would stay the night before weigh in or not. Beats driving at 4 in the morning. As for the$40 it was easy to save cash because they let you bring coolers in. 1 minute periods was explained as a precaution because of the heat in the fieldhouse. Also I paid for the coaches card and it never left my back pocket. I would suggest this tournament to anyone. Im not meaning to bash what your opinion was but I felt it was well ran with the exception of how the awards were given and we will definitely be back.

Definitely was not run like a money grab. The coolers were allowed and there were full mats. Most importantly, there were full wrestlebacks to 3rd and 5th. This gave 1/2 the kids in every bracket 4 matches. That's good. And parking was free. I don't know what admission was. I paid $7 for a coaches pass and they let me in with that. I still don't like 1,1,1 for high school kids. Not long enough to determine the better wrestler. I would like to ask the tournament hosts about the finances, though. Does this tournament run at a profit? If so, who gets the money? Does it run at a loss? If so, who bears the financial burden? |

It's was $7 admission either way. I overheard some of the staff earlier saying they cut it down to 1-1-1 for everyone due to the excessive heat. I think last year for HS and up is was 2-2-2.
They even gave the old timers division a break today and put them in the gymnasium. Can't complain my son had 4 matches. Went 2-2. Both losses could of gone either way. Quote:

My grade a B
They can't control the heat but did a great job of providing water and letting people bring their own coolers in. I was a little frustrated by the short periods as well but understand the reasoning.
Solid competition, it seemed like a lot of top Missouri kids made the trip up. Any time Mike Eireman brings his crew you got to be ready to wrestle. My biggest problem with this tournament was they made it a lot longer then it should of been by not printing out the 5th and 6th grade wrestle backs and running them with the Second round. I had kids sitting for 2 hours waiting to wrestle their second match. |

profits
Im not sure about total profit but do know each local school that brings a mat gets 4-500 dollars for each one depending on how many wrestlers attend.
