Looks like U of I just keeps on getting stronger. Dergo, Kennedy, Nallen, Ryan and now Friedl and Polz. The question is, how many of these kids will get to see the Varsity lineup? By the way, does anybody know how Dergo's knee is doing?

I am 95% sure Kotowski is going to be a walk on at Illinois.

There's no doubt that Illinois is going to be deep with talented guys. My question is this: how many of those same guys who have been on a signig frenzy to work out in Huff Hall for the next four to five years will A) stay in the sport or B) transfer to another school once they realize that they might not have a chance at starting until they are seniors, if at all? To think that Oster is out of wrestling is strange. But look at the Illini's current lower weights and who has committed to go there and you have a complete log jam at the bottom with Flores, Gomez, Manzella, Klinger, Oster (who remains on their roster as of the time I type this up), Fotos, Karr, Lukanich, Pero and maybe Zeman in the first three weight classes and then throw on top of that Kennedy, Deneen, Nallen, I am assuming by the name Ryan people mean Mike Ryan from Bishop McNamara. This is not to mention who intends to walk-on to the team, too. So, you have anywhere from 12 to 16 kids wrestling for three starting spots in the upcoming future. And if Kotowski jumps in, he's behind either Pero or Troy Tirapelle. Then again, with a degree from U of I, whether you wrestle or not, if you stay in this state and parts of this region, you're going to find yourself with a job rather quickly, so good luck to all of them.

Ahh yes, when wrestling is over you need the degree. I hope all of these kids stick with it and get their degree whether they are starting or not. Good luck guys. |
