It'll never happen, the Illini have way to much on the line to allow that to happen.

Yep. Johnson would never jeopardize his recruiting base in Illinois by losing to another in-state rival or having a close match. Last year's loss to Northwestern was bad enough. Grant has been trying to get this dual for at least a couple years now.

i understand why, but i think there is as many positives as negatives, besides if you claim that you are going for a national championship every year or winning the big ten. This meet wouldn't effect that

I applaud this COLLEGE topic, but tell me why it is on the HIGH SCHOOL forum?

That aside, I think it would be great for Illinois wrestling and their fans. For the Illini, the non-Big Ten schedule is pretty weak. Home duals against Div II Central Missouri and Findlay. Most top Div I schools wrestle some tough non-conference duals, but Illinois does not. If you want to build a fan base, bring in Lehigh or Iowa State or Arizona State... or better yet, bring in one or two of these, together with Central Missouri, for a quad-dual.

Actually Findlay is a pretty decent team. I went down to the DII Nationals which they hosted and all of their wrestlers that I saw wrestle looked great. Now before everyone goes nuts, I expect Illinois to beat them but I just wanted to say this is no scrub team or program. Nothing more or less. Although this dual may not benifit the DI program-Illinois, it will be great for the sport and for Findlay looking at it from a DII perspective.
