Clash Results
Montini destroys St. Anthony's (NY) 66-0.
Montini then beats Vacaville (CA) 47-21 but it looks like it could have been worse. Great start for the Illinois teams..... |

It looks like montini built such a big lead they let some of their backups get some matches.

Sandburg wins 72-0 according to Intermat. No final yet for GBN, but Intermat says, like Montini and Sandburg, they are "blistering" through the competition. Not my wording...theirs!

Can't wait to read the Wisconsin board when this is over to see if Illinois is still overated.

Glenbard wins 55-15. They face Sedro-Woolley next; Sandburg has Scott West.

Yea, that's right. I lost track of that wisconsin thread: they didn't say that Illinois was over-rated, simply that at least 2 of the 3 teams were. Does anybody know if wisconsin has figured out which 2 yet??

Quote:
That logic (copied from the Wisconsin board) was: Keep in mind that all the seeding and rankings that we're talking about are based off opinion. According to the Clash seeding, the three IL teams are all seeded in the top four. Mr JPH is responsible for a large part of both the high rankings and high seedings for the IL teams. In other words, it's just a difference of opinion between myself and JPH. I mentioned it a few days ago just to sort of call him out and get him going. Usually he starts posting about how great the IL teams are a couple weeks before the Clash. this year he seemed to be laying in the weeds and needing a gentle push. That's where I came in. It's all in fun and makes life on the forum a little more fun. Anyway, here's what I'm basing my opinion on; Carl Sandburg will likely face Archbishop Moeller. Archbishop Moeller is second only to St Edward in OH. Carl Sandburg is a very good tournament team but has been vulnerable in dual meets. Remember when Rapids was fourth at the Clash, they beat Sandburg head to head. Every year JPH brags up Montini and every year (so far) they get beat at the Cheesehead. Last year they were nationally ranked and got beat by both Merrill and Kaukauna. The funny thing is that they maintained their national ranking. HMMM. They will most likely win their bracket anyway. That's partly because of the scew up that put South Plainfield as a number 2 seed, but mostly because they truly are a very good team. Glenbard North has some extremely good individuals but like most teams is vulnerable at a few weights. I'm not surprised that they finished as high as they did at the Ironman. Keep in mind though that there was a vast difference between the top teir of three or four teams and the next teir of 6. Archbishop Moeller was only 10 points behind Glenbard North and Montini was only 11.5 points ahead while St Edward had their score doubled!!! Both Apple Valley and Wisconsin Rapids have seen enough of Glenbard North to know what it takes to beat them. Remember a couple years ago when Glenbard was a top four team at the Clash and Wisconsin Rapids was something like 26th? Wisconsin Rapids beat them in a dual just two weeks later. Why did that happen? Because it's the Clash and anything can and does happen. Especially with Wisconsin Rapids. My point is that both you and I as well as most of the forum dwellers know that anything can happen in HS wrestling. JPH seems to have it all figured out though and is quite positive of his rankings and seeding. I'm just questioning the accuracy of the seeding and having some fun at the same time. Getting JPH all cranked up about IL wrestling is almost as much fun as getting you all cranked up about the Brewers. Last edited by MR TWISTER; 12-29-2006 at 06:37 PM. |
