Coach Ryan Birt

OK, let's start here first.

Ryan Birt is a huge role model to a lot of people. I personally know him as a person and as a coach, I'm a certified IHSA official. By being an official I have worked with Ryan a lot. He had some criticism in every match of every duel that I have done for him or that he has been in. But, never ONCE has he said something that didn't need to be fixed.

I attended this duel meet to watch. I've seen the UTube video which DOES NOT DO THIS MATCH JUSTICE. The parts of the video you can't see due to the bad camera operator are the most important. While viewing the match I noticed that the wrestler had put in the full nelson and it appeared that pressure was applied with the arms, HOWEVER the second one the wreslter pushed down on the GCMS wrestlers neck while breaking the hold at the same time, making it appear that he didn't do anything wrong. NOW in the video you would be seeing the floor. The GCMS wrestler then went into the bottom position and he appeared to be having some neck problems. Ryan noticing this stopped the match to analyze his wrestler, who MUST have told him that he was in pain. Then Ryan, making sure no one was injured further stopped the match, the result was then decided as a forfeit and GCMS received 6 points. Not to mention both wrestlers were seniors, both of them on their last match of their HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS. Both know what a full nelson is and that it is ILLEGAL. The father/brother whoever is screaming "FOR WHAT!?!" in the video had a VERY CLEAR VIEW of both of the full nelsons, not exactly an intellegent man.

Now since everyone is making a big deal out of nothing let me break down for you the rest of the duel. PORTA did not lose this duel because of 1 match. In fact, if you were to switch this match around so that the PORTA wrestler received 6 points, PORTA STILL would have lost this duel. I think now we should let this match go and forget about it. If you want to think that PORTA lost this duel beause of one little call, well you are mistaken and you will live the rest of your life believing this. Me however I still respect Ryan and have no problems with him. Congradulations to Ryan Birt and the GCMS team on their win in this duel. Someone always tries to find a reason why they lost and this match was not the reason why PORTA lost this duel.

What????

so, what you are saying, is that you have no problem what so ever with Birt's actions????????????

If that is the case, you are definitely in the minority!!!!

I have not made any comments on this subject, but to clear him of any blame is wrong. He made a poor decision and his sportsmanship was non existant.

Stop yourself!!!!

How does your math figure PORTA Still loses if they win this match? They only lost by 2 the way it stands...I honestly dont believe you are an official either...You are just a GCMS supporter...I have spoken with many people that were there including officials, and everyone is in agreement that PORTA was BIRTED...

You are insane, a math failure, and a crazy appologist. The coach has admitted that he saw a chance to take the victory and took it. An injury had nothing to do with it. If you want to congragulate him for using a rule to his advantage so be it, but don't insult everybody's intelligence by saying what we saw didn't happen.

Why beat a dead horse. Move on or you will all be like Uncle Rico in Napolean Dynamite reliving the big game if only.....
Right or wrong it is over and done with there is nothing we do or say can change it.

It is not over, we still have to wrestle against him, if my kid locks his hand will he pull another "Birt". He has to admit it was wrong and say he will never do it again.
