Jennings Continues Winning Ways, ‘Cats Take Four Bouts vs. Indiana

EVANSTON, Ill. – Conan Jennings stretched his winning streak to four with an 8-0 win at Welsh-Ryan Arena Friday night. The redshirt-sophomore beat Fletcher Miller by major decision to improve to 15-7 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in the conference. Jennings has won his last three matches by tech fall, pin and major decision.

In the first bout of the night, Johnny Sebastian put on a dominating display at 165 pounds. He won 14-4 over Bryce Martin to get Northwestern on the board first. The Ramsey, N.J. native has now recorded 14 wins on the year.

Chicago’s Big Ten Team built off Sebastian’s strong start to take three of the first five bouts, but Indiana would take four after the intermission to eventually win the match, 23-14.

No. 19 Jacob Berkowitz added three points for the Wildcats at 197 pounds, beating IU’s Norman Conley, 5-0. Jason Ipsarides recorded the fourth Northwestern victory with an 8-1 decision at 133 lbs., retaking the lead for the ‘Cats at 14-13.

The next two bouts were tightly contested with the Hoosiers notching decisions in both to pull away in the match.

Northwestern will be back on the mat Sunday at 1 p.m. in University Park, Pa. to take on the No. 2 Penn State Nittany Lions.
