Wow, that is really dumb. Take a couple hundred years to do that or just do what other countries that still have hunting and guns do. You can give everybody a gun and the give the guns a gun of their own and in addition to all the additional accidental deaths you are going to have people drop ten people in ten seconds before you pull your gun. Most killers don't do all the thinking you two assume. Just get used to it. Gun violence is here to stay, thanks to the fantasy that you can fix peoples brains to fix the problem. First, fix all mental illness, and being that most people who murder are not mentally ill but just mad - then keep humans from getting mad. - Nice plan.

Here is just one example of using fear to reduce crime. In the stats below New York City was using stop and frisk. Every single crime statistic went down and the population started to rise. The fear was just fear of getting caught. I don't think stop and frisk alone is all we need, this is just one example of something that works. Stop and frisk could be replaced with Cameras on every corner...tell me why that wouldn't work.

Another thing that works is capital punishment...a dead man will not kill again...and there is a certain percentage of potential killers that do not want to die. There are also mad people that don't kill because they have a healthy fear of God. There is no one solution, many different killers kill for many different reasons. Stopping them requires fear, faith or force.

If you are mad enough to kill someone you are at least temporarily insane. Sane people do not commit murder. It is by definition, crazy to kill an innocent person intentionally.

You have never once elaborated on what they do in other countries that still hunt.

Dumb argument, now made dumber. Don't worry, nothing will be done. Stop and Frisk is more gun control than fear. So now you want stronger gun laws like in NY which are more severe than Chicago. Mass shooter often kill themselves are going for death by cop. If they were thinking things through, they probably wouldn't be shooting people There have been more than 1 mass shooting per day this year and the trend is going up. The US continues to combat it with more guns per your suggestion - thus far doing the opposite.

Hunting is legal in more countries than it isn't. The US is not even in the top 5 as a percentage of population. We just like to use our guns to shoot people- also, that is just the way we are.

If you want to call stop and frisk gun control, I will concede the point. I am in favor of taking guns from criminals and I can't understand why you are not in favor of disarming criminals. I showed you a policy that clearly worked and worked well...you seem to be content with all the killing. I guess I don't understand what you are arguing for. Your arguments are nonsensical and I can't make any sense out of what you are saying.

Doesn't work well compared to normal countries, and proven to be illegal here in the US. It has nothing to do with shootings and mass shootings anywhere else and would not prevent a mass shooting.

It is a very minor part of any solution, not a solution. Cops don't even go confiscate guns from the people they know should not have them. Like the Aurora, IL shooter his year - there are just too many to go get. Everyone with guns should go get them, like the Wild West. Gun advocates say more guns, lean into it I guess, even though will likely make things worse.

            • Good guy uses gun against bad guy. Yes, this is what guns are for. Don't shoot dogs. This is why I sleep with a pillow under my gun.

The "Good Guy" found a bullet in his head and his Dog. As usual I am not seeing the point you are trying to make.

The joke at the end of the post was good.

"I sleep with a pillow under my gun." Very nice! I might use that some day. With proper attribution, of course.

On another note, this happened to me today:

I'm using the paper shredder. I know to turn off the machine when I'm removing the bin. The device has stopped shredding, but it is still on. This time, though, I didn't. Listening to music blasting and daydreaming, I forgot. I even pulled on those little paper bits that are in the teeth of the grinder.

                  Sometimes, you just forget.

It was a sarcastic. People like posting the "good guy with a gun" posts, a shame the majority are not. This stuff happens all of the time.

I know a person on the south side, they have a five acre yard. The person behind them have a five acre yard. Their dog stepped a couple of steps pasts his yard into the guys behind him and the guy shot it from his house with telescopic scope. Only got "destruction of property or something". I don't care if guns are legal or not, but way too many stories like this.

then I learned how damaging troll mis-information is. Trolls mis-information outnumber basic facts 4 to 1 on the internet. Just look at the climate change information vs mis-information.

                        • Wow. This is going to be interesting. My company just started requiring "Active Shooter Training." You have to watch a video and then take a test. I'm going to watch that video just to see what they're telling people to do.

I bet people all over the country are having to do this, all because a few folks (and one blood-thirsty organization) like to cos-play.

Of course, people dying because of cos-play is much more important. But now there are people being inconvenienced because of cos-play. How will that play out?

                          .

Ah yes, the great "Cos-play" oversimplification. People are dying because of bad people, not "cos-play", and make no mistake, you will never, EVER be able to disarm this country despite your absurd desire to do so. You really don't have a clue what the 2nd Amendment is all about, do you? It's not about being "inconvenienced", it's about infringement of a basic right!! Twice in my life being armed prevented me the first time, and my family the second time from harm. Nope, just barking from your little corner of ire and irritation. Oh yea, you hear about all the people killed with a fully automatic rifle in...JAPAN last week?

We don't even go after weapons of known felons that apply for concealed carry permits like the guy who killed 6 people in Aurora this year, so jumping to " disarm this country" is great exaggeration and the Japan thing is total cherry picking. Our country is unique in this weapons regard, if we need them to protect ourselves from our own country we need equal weapon access, we need to legally own blackhawk helicopters and large scale weapons. Otherwise that is a mute argument. I am not against guns, just bad arguments. After all these mass shooting, very little has changed so I am not sure why pro-gun people are so paranoid their guns being taken away. Everybody knows that 25% of the old men over 70 will barricade themselves in their house and have 5 years worth of ammunition if people came for their guns, and shoot anybody that comes for them. That is the American way. I have no problem with that, keep America crazy.

                              • Does anyone not see the correlation between the (steadily increasing) loosening of gun laws through the last 15-20 years and the exponential increase in gun violence, specifically mass shootings?

Are you gun nuts really going to say that it is a coincidence?

                                I am not against guns.
I am not against people owning guns.
I am not against concealed carry.
                                I am a gun owner.

I AM against ANYONE being able to get a gun.
I AM against ANYONE being able to get a gun without a REAL background check.
I AM against ANYONE being able to get a gun at a gun show without ANY (or any REAL) background check.
I AM against the gun lobby killing ANY bill or proposal, involving background checks or red flag laws etc., that is brought forth, by ANY politician after an act of gun violence or mass shooting.
I AM against the gun lobby buying politicians who loosen the gun laws to the point where ANYONE can buy a half-made rifle and assemble it themselves, without ANY checks, ANY evaluation of their mental state, ANY evaluation of their criminal history or ANY REAL record of that purchase.

Guns are a REAL threat - yes, the criminals and gangs have them - yes, they will always get their guns illegally - no, they will not turn them in if there were any kind of "buyback" (there never will be) - but the threat with guns is not (necessarily) the guns themselves, it is the person who values profit over safety, money over civility, it is the person who legally buys guns then sells them, be it across the country, where gun laws may be loosest or at the gun show, where there is no real record of the transaction. The "dealer" or half-made-receiver "manufacturer" who justifies his lack of conscience saying 'I cannot control what the gun does after I sell it'. Those people, and the politicians, are the threat because they value personal wealth over public health.

Mack will come on spinning his yarns about how guns have saved him, or someone he knows, Mal will come on with a few links to stories about how a good guy with a gun stopped a mass shooting or a robber and that is great, those are good stories, that is what concealed carry is supposed to do.
But you cannot argue that the number of instances of gun violence and, specifically mass shootings have not gone up exponentially with the progressive loosening (or elimination) of gun laws across the country.

You cannot argue that the loosening of gun laws has made this country safer.
You cannot argue that more guns are making us safer.
You cannot argue that someone manufacturing a half-made gun for sale to ANYONE with a drill to "finish" the manufacturing process, regardless of their mental state is a good thing.
You cannot argue that the gun lobby is concerned about public saftey.
You cannot argue that the gun lobby is not concerned about their profits.
