  • Aquin/Dakota co-op

Excluding schools doesn't grow the sport. https://www.mystateline.com/sports/h...op-with-aquin/

I just saw the Rockford news cast and thought I would share, but please, enlighten us in how the news cast, or my statement, was sending misinformation.

Well since "neutral" observer doesn't want to respond with anything other than I am horribly misinformed, I'll lay it out. Simply google Scott Leber twitter, you don't need a twitter account to read, scroll to Jan 4th for his story on the co-op. You will see a Lena fan respond with this "Aquin can wrestle in the IHSA State Tournament, there is no one stopping them." Now explain how that isn't excluding a school? Aquin has 88 total enrollment, and some person from a school with 250 who co-ops with Stockton, thinks Aquin should have a wrestling program by themselves. It's called exclusion.
I am not misinformed, quite the opposite.

Dakota already has an existing co-op with Orangeville. How many wrestlers does Dakota get from Orangeville? How often does Dakota go to Orangeville and beat the bushes to encourage Orangeville kids to wrestle? When is the last time any Orangeville kids wrestled? Would it not make sense to fertilize and water the existing co-op rather than attempting to create an additional co-op? If, as you say, Aquin has an enrollment of 88 students, how much sense does it make to try and create a co-op with a school of such a small size? Realistically, how many wrestlers would be expected to participate from Aquin? With 88 students, the odds would seem rather low that it would help the existing numbers. Or, would a potential co-op with Aquin be for other reasons?

Maybe one, two, or none would participate, but the opportunity is there. According to the news article no one from Orangeville wrestled in the past 5 or 6 years, but the opportunity is there. Polo and Amboy co-op with multiple schools that provide no one, but the opportunity is there. Lena picked up a 2nd co-op in 2011 with Warren. To pick up an IKWF standout, no one said no. Great for wrestling, Warren, and Lena since in 2012 he placed 3rd in State at 106 for Lena. But I guess that co-op got dropped after the Warren student wrestled for 4 years with Lena, since it's no longer listed on IHSA. Odd.

Maybe those two kids should look into a coop with Freeport High School! That way they can still wrestle!!

Wouldn't it be nice if it was that simple.

Fact of the day: A student can go to a private school and participate in athletics as long as they live within a 30 mile radius of the school they are attending. Hmmm.....30 miles. Who would have guessed?

                        Yorkville Christian can do it...

65 Kids in the whole school. Probably 2/3 of them wrestle and they will get a dual team trophy this year along with individual honors.

FUN FACT OF THE DAY: A PUBLIC SCHOOL CO-OPs WITH A PRIVATE SCHOOL---NOW CONSIDERED A PRIVATE SCHOOL CO-OP; MOVE UP FROM CLASS A TO CLASS AA AFTER 2 YEARS OF PLACING FOURTH OR HIGHER.

Why the games? Why the play on words? For your fact of the day, anyone living outside Orangeville's school district may attend Orangeville schools for $3500 a year. It's on their website. Much cheaper than Aquin. So why would Dakota need Aquin to recruit, when someone can go to Orangeville much cheaper? Because Dakota just wants the multiplier, or perhaps they want to better the sport by including schools? Perhaps Lena's administration should have known this before calling the other schools in the NUIC to tell them to vote no.

Let them go to Orangeville then. If it is truly wrestling they desire, that would solve the problem. You just solved the problem!
