I think the refs have been pretty outstanding so far. There will always be missed calls and I'm sure 1 or 2 have been egregious but for the most part they have stayed out of the way. Sorry your kid got a bad call, it happens

To make a stalling call in OT to decide a match in Champaign is egregious. Let the kids settle it on the mat.

What if the kid was blatantly stalling?
By that I mean, backing away repeatedly.
- or - literally diving or running or pushing out of bounds.
- or - riding parallel without trying to turn at all.
- or - laying on his belly (with his head down) without being forced to, with no attempt to base up.
- or - in control on their feet, with no real attempt to return.... I could go on.

I did not see the call that you are referring to.

How long does a referee have to "let the kids wrestle" before he HAS to make a call?

I am NOT defending the ref, as I said, I did not see the call.

Isn't the kid in question obliged to wrestle rather than stall?

The referees are NEVER consistent. It doesn't matter if it's the state series or a dual in the beginning of the season.

The refs most certainly have their favorites...and it shows. I mean, it becomes obvious when it is a consistent trend. And I agree w/ a stalling call to decide a match in OT. Let them wrestle and settle it that way.

Either the refs do not know what stalling is or they are afraid to call it or they just call it against the southern schools. That seems to be the case in my eyes. Some of the most blatant stalling has gone on as if the refs were told, do not get involved. Some very clueless refs in regards to stalling.

Other than that, they have been pretty good. I have seen terrible officiating and there is not a lot of it at the state meet. Stalling seems to be impossible to call for some reason.

Been nice to see the refs not let wrestlers grab hold of a Russian and not try for a takedown from it, I never really agreed with getting a Russian just to control the clock or to keep walking the other kid out of bounds over and over.

The rules were revised this year and I'm not sure the entire Illinois fan base is informed on the differences. We are fortunate to have a ref crew inform our fans pre-season on the rule changes. I feel different areas of the state have different expectations on what they think is stalling (shouldn't be this way and that was what the changes were trying to fix). I do think it is difficult to get all refs to comply the first year and I hope they keep the changes for next year.
*As far as calling stalling in OT, if the kid has been warned in regulation that is their fault if they get hammered with a point in OT.

Should’ve been dq’d in sectionals, and shoulda been hit with 2pts in the 3rd at state! Can’t beat shickel by wrestling him so he stalls out!

Not picking on you specifically; I have the same stock response to all who complain about officiating in any sport. I do reserve the right to bitch about the Russian judge at Olympic and World figure skating and gymnastics however.

I’ll pick up a whistle any time pal! It’s not hard to call stalling when the kid runs his opponent out of bounds constantly and then gets into situations and makes no moves! Pretty shitty way to ref and wrestle, again sectionals and state! Garbage!

Stalling... How about a wrestler calling for medical time, both occasions happening at the beginning of the 3rd. Are we shocked that the same team all showed up with shoulder harnesses for sectionals? Everyone of them! This getting out of hand.

I would have to agree. Only one kid wrestled. For the most part I think officials where pretty good.

Who would that be? The only one I seen with a shoulder strap was Drew Nash!
