I know Steve Congenie personally as a teammate and a friend. so take this information how u want to. But, Steve is a Tremendous athlete and DID NOT gas in the 3rd period. I saw him hit a BEAUTIFUL fireman carry in that 3rd period, he simply "coasted" in that 3rd period. And to close, I would like to say that it would have been pretty cool to see the Congenie/Akui matchup ending all speculation to Steve's dominance.

Cannot help but wonder about this Congenie kid? Never hear about him (at least not me) outside of IHSA regular season stuff and on the national radar scene a "non-entity". After watching him against Brooks I'm thinking "everybody" should know about him? Too bad, a match up against Akui (sp?) would really have had people watching (and maybe talking?). Only a junior to boot but very impressive no matter the "low profile".

There's a good article in the Lombard Spectator. Winning a 2nd title was definately a goal and an honor, but determination to return to an elite level of wrestling after a potentially career ending injury last May was quite an accomplishment.

I've known Steve and he's not only fantastic on the mat but off the mat too. Not to mention an honor student as long as I've known him. Good luck in the future buddy.

Not that low profile...I believe he trains at Overtime.

I agree, that was a very impressive performance at 189.

              jack allen:

              #2 and top 10 nationally chris lopez 5-3, 5-2
              #4 sean sullivan -pin
              #5 josh dust - major
              #6 jevar glover - major
              #7 brian pieroth - major
              #8 aaron castagna - major
              #9 andrew geers - pin
#10 tom howell - little bro. brian pinned
#4/215 shaquille mcmurtry (who should have beat marchok in that semi-final match) - pin
              #5 aa motley - major
              #9 aa deleon - pin
              #10 aa brazil - pin
              # 11 aa schraidt - pin

"generally", heavyweights sometimes have lower scoring push & shoves.
that was NOT the case this year.

chris lopez = congratulations, you're very, very good.

james buss = you looked alot better this year, to bad we didn't get to see you and jack tangle

only ONE offensive takedown allowed this year, to jevar glover, and you sheepishly grinned

i would have liked to see marsden against marchok, but it was not to be.

all we can go on is who was in front of them, but, the cream rises to the top against the best competition.
that was a close match before mcmurtry fractured his wrist on a roll through whic had him out till regionals "still fractured" through state
