When I coached at Lake Park a few years back, our two freshmen coaches we're former GBN wrestlers, myself along with our other coaches would hound and pound on these two coaches to tell us what the gold circle meant, they would not cave.

      1. They never shake hands.
      2. They only win the DVC 14 times in a row, because it's a weak conference.
      3. They won't tell us what the gold dot means.
      4. They are successful so they must be cheating.
      5. They die their hair blond at the end of the year.
      6. Their coaches wear cowboy boots.

If that's not reason enough to hate us, come up with the last 4.
      7. They have eleven different singlets.
      8. Even with more wardrobe changes than Madonna they usually settle on the knock off Hawkeye singlet in the end.
      9. The blond hair again.
      10. You are a Naperville North fan

I've heard it represents "the light at the end of the tunnel", not sure though.

                    Pssst.....

It doesn't mean anything...are you trying to tell me that from a group of 15 - 18 year olds over the last ten years, not one would tell what the "dot" means? Not going to happen......if it meant something, somebody somewhere along the line would have told somebody.....

You can believe what you want to. Maybe that's the secret of our success, getting 15 - 18 year old kids to buy into something they can believe in. Also "The Dot" has been around for longer than 10 years!

                        Much longer.
Do it in the name of heaven....you can justify it in the end.

All of them? Every single one of them for over 10 years and not one person has ever slipped up, had one had too many drinks, showing off at a party...whatever...no one has ever reveled what the "dot" stands for? 15 - 16 year olds and not one ever held a grudge or felt he was slighted to the point he would revel the secret?

Very impressive and I am not denying your success, but maybe you guys should be in charge of the CIA instead of a wrestling program.

Mark me down as a non-believer....

                              Gold dot meaning

It is a symbol for the little bald spot on hahn's head. This is where the success stems from.

On another note - why the hatred?

                              1. head coach comes off as a jerk to the public
                              2. Gold dot gimmick
                              3. Wrestlers not shaking hands (I hate all the hand shaking BUT people think it's necessary for some reason)
                              4. They're constantly good.

As a person who has been around Illinois wrestling since the middle 60's, I have seen and watched many wrestling programs and even more wrestling coaches over the years. I came in direct contact with GBN wrestling and Coach Fulk when I started coaching high school wrestling in the mid 70's. I was very impressed with their program then and even more impressed now! Mark Hahn is only the second wrestling coach for GBN in their 45 years of existence. I have watched GBN grow even more successful over the years and as it has been debated....it is arguably the best, most consistent wrestling program over the past 40 years. I have probably seen GBN wrestle 100 times over those years and I have never seen Coach Hahn act like a jerk...intense, absolutely...focused, definitely, but acting like a jerk, never! Ask any of his wrestlers over his 25+ years of coaching about how they feel about Hahn and everyone of them will tell you how much they admire and love him...and most importantly...respect him. The negativity towards GBN wrestling is breed from jealousy, in my opinion. The amount of time those coaches put into their program and the commitment to their wrestlers is why they are so successful....look at how many wrestling coaches have come out of that program as wrestlers for GBN. I wish my son could have wrestled for Hahn...that's how much respect I have for him.
