  • Belvidere WHY WHY WHY

Why would Belvidere want to combine wrestling programs. Two schools two different teams..... Belvidere North finished with 31 kids last year Belvidere High School finished with 19..... Simple Math.. 50 kids plus next year means some kids wont get to develop...... last year with 31wrestlers not to many schools had that many so North had alot of wrestlers without matches.....

    are they combining all sports

This is usually done to cut costs. Are all sports being combined?

I remember Belvidere being brought up a few years ago that they might cancel wrestling, does that sound familiar to anyone else?

Searched the forum and found back in 2007 the school board voted to cut all sports, then reversed the decision.

Out of curiosity, when two schools combine their wrestling programs, how would they determine what class they are in? Do they add the enrollments together?

I heard that Belvidere might go back to only having one school.

If it is a combined program, they have to add the 2 enrollments together. This would probably bump them to 3A.

                  Yes, they combine enrollments.

That's crazy talk. Maybe it's cause I'm at a 3a school with 75 kids in our program, but 31 and 19 kids doesnt sound like very deep numbers. I also think it's ridiculous to say that a program with 50 kids means some kids won't develop. I think Co-Ops can be a great thing.

Hell, I wish we could do that in U-46!

Not much different than being in some of the current big schools...most big schools have 50+ wrestlers plus many have 2,3+ varsity starters. It annoyed me at first, but life just gets rougher, so why not.

i've followed wrestling in the northern illinois area for quite awhile and this year i don't think either belvidere team was able to field a full line up at the varsity level. why not combine the programs and at least have a full line up. i agree with james, hononegah has 70 plus wrestlers every year and they seem to develop them just fine.

I agree with James and BNC, More kids= more practice partners in my books. Which in the long haul should help kids develop faster and better because they are training with different styles of wrestling. Just my input!!!
