We have done 8 Jumbotron (never did the IHSA give us a dime for them) and I know how to do my job. We have a lot of new people here I think, who may not have seen how this video is done. Which is fine. The only reason I'm doing this because I was asked to and if it doesn't get funded, it doesn't get funded. I was approached by several people last year who claimed that they could help get it off the ground financially. We aren't making a profit doing this and we can't sell it afterwards, all I can do is post it for free because I legally don't own any of the material. So if anyone else not in the media business would like to pretend they know what they're talking about I'm all ears.

Help us or don't help us, it's the beauty of something like this.
And we wonder why we don't generate as much publicity as football and basketball as a sport! It took 6 pages to get people to stop acting as if you are "doing something behind their backs" when all you have done is help wrestling in countless ways over the years! James Keep up the great work, even all of the behind the scenes stuff that you do for our sport. Are you sure you don't need any of these "Media experts" to help you with this project?

It's called doing it for expenses not for profit. Ask anyone that has viewed any of JD's work and they will tell you it is EXCELLENT!
By hesitating you are making a choice. You’re choosing to take the decision out of your own hands and put it in the hands of someone else. And that means that you lose.

Please, I love the video and not questioning quality of work.

"After discussing things with the IHSA, we've decided to bring back the Jumbotron Video this year. However, the IHSA isn't going to cover our costs, so we've decided to launch a GoFundMe account. We're trying to raise $3000 to cover our expenses and make some money for our time".

It is unfortunate he cannot sell the DVD to cover costs and make money because the work is quality for sure, but there seem to be restrictions to this it appears.

Emphasis on "some." Split that $3k three ways and cover all of your travel costs and there isn't a lot left over.

Yes it is well known that Directors in Hollywood never seek any kind of funding or investment in their films. They simply do it the Capitalist way by using their own money to make the film and then try to sell it afterwards to the theater companies and distributors.

Yeah that is really how it works.

Nice comparison, makes complete sense. Since you have it all figured out share it with your buddy Quentin Tarantino. Maybe he can figure out how to raise the money without sounding like he is doing the wrestling world a favor by making it for only a small profit.

I am clearly overmatched here by the Tarantino of clever retorts. I will now cower to my living room and explain to my daughter how this year she needs to bake all her Girlscout cookies in advance and sample them out before anyone can buy them. That is how capitalism works. No one ever pays for anything in advance anymore. It's called Dobler Economics 101 so deal with it suckers!

Like I said, if you're not interested in supporting what we're doing, that's fine. I'm not twisting your arm, but I didn't do one last year and a lot of people reached out to me about doing another one. A lot of people. So considering it's something that we should get about $10K for considering the work and the time, we are doing something for the community. And again, if you don't care, that's fine. And if it doesn't work, that's also fine.

I been reading this thread and I guess I just don't understand what the debate is about.

You either like the videos and want to help them continue so you will donate...big or small

                      OR....

YOU DON'T and just let it go on with out you.....

Stand by with that. I have some things I need to take care of this morning and I'll have a solid answer this afternoon.
