  • 126 weight class

This weight class is absolutely stacked this year. Look forward to seeing how this one plays out at state.

    My Top 6

    1.Austin Gomez-Glenbard North (Jr.)
    2.Tony Madrigal-O.P.R.F. (So.)
    3.Jacob Silzer-St.Rita (Sr.)
    4.Markus Hartman-Barrington (So.)
    5.Tommy Pawelski-Montini (Sr.)
    6.Christian Kanzler-Grant (Sr.)
Others to watch to steal a spot on the stand
    Anthony Rubino-STE (State Placer)
    Robbie Precin-Sandburg (State Placer)
    Zach Villarreal-Lyons
    David Rivera-Kohr-Evanston (2A State Placer)
    Vinnie Piunti-LWC

My dark horse pick is David Rivera. And I'm going with the CCL boy Silzer. Gomez is the favorite, and I haven't followed OPRFs schedule enough to know who Madrigal has really wrestled this season, but he'll be ready. Pawelski will be ready. They're always loaded for bear come state.

I like Hartman a lot, but he seems just a shade young, and then Kanzler and Villareal. That's my 8. Not necessarily in order. I'm actually leaning toward the same 6 you have but I think Rivera and/or Villareal sneak in there somehow.

I think both Gomez and Madrigal don't make the final. One gets "upset" along the way.

      Silzer

Silzer is listed at 132 on rankings

RT we watched him at 138 to open the season. So I think 132 is where he wrestles at state right?

No. He just went 126 at Cheesehead and at a tri on Wed. He's looking pretty small. I'm expecting to see him there at CCL.

Madrigal beat Ohio state champ Hart from St Edward and went undefeated at Clash XIV. He also won the Rex Whitlatch beating Precin (CS) in the finals.

Unless David Rivera-Kohr was at a different school last year, there was no way he placed in 2A, Evanston is one of the largest 20 schools in the state,

that being said, hes a great wrestler, just was in 3A last year

This weight class is very tough. Still, I would be surprised if anyone beat Madrigal or Gomez. Those two are fantastic. The only one that I could see hanging with them is Silzer. Maybe, Kanzler or Pawelski next.

Does anybody know where madrigal was for state tourney last year the only time ive seen him lose was to cade olivas and 106 and araju in freestlyle since his freshman year he has beaten real woods pounded louie hayes beat renteria over the summer and thats just a few studs in our state ........has he ever wrestled gomez in folkbefore ...if gomez keeps it on his feet i think he has the edg edge....on the mat madrigal ...i give madrigal the edge overall cuz of his partner in practice renteria im sure he reminds him all day every day ....i just hope they both get there I think renteria is on a mission he is done losing in the finals t......two elite wrestlers pushin themselves everyday renteria was literally seconds from being a statecamp ... and madrigal handled everybody at 106 durindg theseason last year adleast i hope that happens .....i wish oconner was at 32 or 26 then my long boring predictions at 2:00 in the mornng would be much simpler ....oconner beats any of them ..... .....now that i made my predictions it will probably end upnsilzer over pawalski

                            Madrigal

He wasn't able to make weight at regionals. Seeing that he is now at 126, he must have been cutting a ton to wrestle at 106 last year. I am anticipating that Gomez-Madrigal at sectionals and state could be as exciting as last year's Gomez-Renteria battles.

Silzer or Gomez wins 3A 126.

Madrigal/Gomez will be interesting this week.
