No Video Recorders? What...

Are you kidding me. Parents, fans and coaches can't tape the wrestlers? They have worked so hard to get to state. It would be different if the IHSA had a good on-demand video program to sort out specific matches during the tournament, but they don't. They lump all the videos together in a 6-7 hour tape and you have to search for the match you want to watch. This is bogus in my opinion.

That may be for spectators only. People with a participant's pass may be able to bring in video recording equipment and use it in a designated area.

I saw that with bag rule. Are they going to turn away 600 wrestlers for not having a clear bag? Sadly, this is a serious question.

I doubt they would do this & you are likely correct. But, I recently saw Jack White at the Aragon and when you walked in EVERYONE had to hand their phone to the security people how put it in a locked bag and handed it back to you. If you had to make a call you had to go to area by the lobby, they unlocked it, and then locked it again after your call. It was less hassle then I would have predicted but it is enforceable if they really want to. As for Jack White, he is no Clutch, and surprisingly I thought Ed Sheeran put on a better show.

Pretty sure they're referring to just straight-up video recorders - camcorders and up, if you will. If you notice, it also shows cameras are allowed. Any digital camera made today will also record video.

At most, I think parents who use a camcorder may want to have a backup plan. But phones, tablets, regular cameras - all of those also record video, and all are allowed. (But if you record on a phone/tablet, for the love of god hold it sideways before you hit record!)

No, that will not happen. Wrestlers and coaches, media, etc. have different rules that apply to them. Wrestlers will still be able to have their regular bags, just like media will still be able to have their cameras, laptops, etc.


Basically, that list is for spectators, not credentialed individuals.

It’s a multi year contract. Was the IHSA supposed to anticipate this new arena rule? Or pay the financial penalty for breaking the contract? And there aren’t a lot of arenas in the state that have both the floor space for enough mats AND large seating capacity.

The last time the contract was put up for bid, did any other city/facility submit one? I don’t know the answer to that; I do recall that the last few times the dual team finals have gone up for bid, somebody knowledgeable about such things here said that Bloomington has been the only bidder.

Frankly, I’d save the outrage for something the IHSA can really control. Why is it that I can watch the Iowa state finals on CSN but the Illinois finals are not? There’s the real greed factor in play.
