Purely observational and only from three meets watched on my part, but...the Illini seem fairly good at short offense. If they can defend the initial shot/takedown attempt they seem to have the ability to score. This is promising and fun to watch. They do seem to lack in being the aggressor early in the first period and appear to struggle finishing the close ones. Against Ohio State there were a couple matches that Illinois just seemed a click behind. Obviously Martin is at the top, but his match with Parker he just seemed a bit more crisp. James is another one that comes to mind againstOhio. In my opinion he outwrestled his opponent, just seemed a step behind in finishing his shots. I don’t have the answer, I’ll always be a homer and hope they turn it up when it counts.
