Things going well for Juniors as well

The coaching staff was not particularly happy with some of the results of the morning session - after all, nobody's ever satisfied - but the big picture looks pretty good for the Junior freestyle team.

Illinois will take home another boatload of All-Americans - 20 in all - and three already have advanced to the finals.

It'll be an all-Illinois final at 98 - Nkosi Moody vs. Tommy Pawelski - and returning Cadet National champion Brian Murphy (145) also punched his ticket, thanks to a late win over Apple Valley (Minn.) standout Brandon Kingsley on Mat 1.

Five more Illinoisans are just one win away from the finals, including at 189, where unbeaten Sam Brooks and once-beaten Jahwon Akui could be on course for a second all-Illinois final.

Matt Garelli (105), Zane Richards (130) and Edwin Cooper (152) also are in with one more win.

Should all five of them win, Illinois would have more finalists - eight - than any other state except Iowa would have total All-Americans.

Some tough losses this morning, however, knocked Jered Cortez (119), Spartacus Chino (160), Josh Marchok and Michael Sojka (215) and Austin Marsden (285) out of finals contention. On several occasions, Illinois guys were going against each other later this morning.

So they'll be looking to close the deal in this evening's session.
