Exclamation August IKWF meeting

The following By Laws were PASSED and will be implemented for the 2019-20 season

Double Elimination at Sectionals ONLY

----Double Elimination will be discussed AGAIN at the OCTOBER 2019 meeting and may be implemented for the 2019-20 season however right now only FULL DOUBLE ELIMINATION will be used at Regionals and Sectionals
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Weight Class Changes at Senior-Novice-Intermediate.

The following are the NEW weight classes that will be used for the 2019-20 season

Senior weight classes
70-74-79-84-90-96-103-110-118-126-135-144-154-164-176-188-215-275

Novice weight classes
60-64-69-74-80-86-93-100-108-116-125-134-154-178-215

Intermediate weight classes
50-54-59-64-70-76-83-90-98-106-115-125-134-156-177
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At Regionals Tots and Bantams can bump up ONLY IF there is no one for them to wrestle---IE a 1 man bracket.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those are the really big changes that everyone will notice

The 2 big proposals that FAILED were the proposals about barring kids from wrestling on out of state duals teams and barring kids from being 15 years old BEFORE Regionals from wrestling at the State Series. AGAIN THESE 2 FAILED and were NOT PASSED

Pretty interesting. We canít seem to get double elimination at the state meet passed yet, but weíll still allow a kid that may have his/her drivers learner permit to participate in that state meet. Go figure. Can they at least implement bracket flipping if we canít get double elimination? The IHSA had been doing that since around 1983, before they finally went to double elimination.

IKWF rules

Pretty interesting no doubt, double elimination at state series would be a nice change. Considering last years age division changes that has the July/August birthday kids that still believe in Santa putting double elimination on their Christmas list..... I'm fairly new to the scene (about 4 years in) but can't understand what September 1st age cut off has to do with Illinois wrestling ? If we/they are required to have USA wrestling card why not use USA wrestling dates and weight divisions ? Honest questions -NOT- trying to beat a dead horse seems like Illinois in general has horseshit rules and laws not only for guns and hunting but wrestling as well .

Are you serious? I turned 16 in the middle of my junior year! Has it always been like that?

It’s almost comical. Or sad . Whichever way you want to look at it. Last year, they were ruthless and they pushed the 12 year olds up to senior. And this year they show mercy by allowing a 15 year old to wrestle against those 12 year olds. Sometimes you gotta wonder. Can someone please explain to me why a 15 year needs to wrestle in the IKWF ?

But we wouldnt want some kids wrestling out of state for a weekend or two now would we?
Priorities are messed up. The fact the 15 year old thing was actually voted on and upheld is really sad.

Personally, that age gap will never affect my son, as he's pretty itty bitty and will always be wrestling small / small(ish) kids.

Having said that, a 130# 12 year old has just about nothing in common with a 130# 15 year old. I get being the younger kid in the bracket you always take your lumps, but those kids in the middle to higher weights are going to be physically brutalized.

I wonder if you're going to start seeing some of those 12 year olds take that as almost like a 'red shirt' year?

Red shirt

I may have been secretly and selfishly hoping they passed that stupid travel ban idea, to kinda sorta be forced into a "red shirt" year !!! Now before you guys attack me, I admit, it was all wished for in a selfish manner, I think they idea of travel ban is ridiculous ✌

Kids are holdbacks @15, they should move on to high school. My son will start 7th grade 12 yrs old and turn 13 just before season starts.
