I don't think anyone is concerned by the outcome of how the match went, it is just a topic of conversation on a forum because everyone knows how good the two of them are. Noone is use to seeing Whitford lose is all, and everyone knows how good Mikey Avelar is.

Is he cutting so much weight that he needs a break? If he's cutting more than Avelar is he really "bumping up"?

I'll agree the weight is "irrelevant" as I also suspect they were both over 135 at the time of the match.

Did they get 2, 3 or 4 pounds for this tournament?

I remember the John Wooden quote, after Duke beat the unbeatable UNLV team in the NCAA's in the early 90's. "A lot of teams have won one in a row."

How about we shine some light towards Colin Holler who beat nationally ranked Matt Kelliher at the Clash...Not necessarily saying we should in this thread but I think he deserves some attention...Whitford and Avelar aren not the only two wrestlers in the state.

Yes we know but Brill is injured. Congrats to Holler. For a public school that doesn't recruit CS and GBN did a good showing of themselves.

THAT's funny... to put it in "movie terms": it still sounds like Four Weddings and a Funeral to me...

You can spin things however you want to if you really apply yourself.

One more stalling call and maybe what we have is Three Weddings and Two Funerals, no?

Hmmmm.... that's A LOT of data you're seemingly reporting as fact -- especially for a program and kid you previously reported you have no connection to (besides polite PMs that is...) I still believe exactly what you said to be exactly true.

That being said, the "bump up" aspect of this should neither be applauded (e.g. hooray for Whitford for chasing competition) nor used as an excuse (e.g. 135 lbers SHOULD beat 130 lbers). They BOTH weighed the same at weigh-in we're told here by what I have come to regard as a reliable source.

We don't categorize kids by the lowest weight class they're allowed to cut down to otherwise you'd have to say that Whitford is REALLY a 125 lber...

...conversely, we also don't categorize kids by what weight class they compete in most frequently (well, maybe we DO but we SHOULDN'T)...

Evaluate any contest by what the participants weighed on the day they wrestled -- THAT is/was their weight -- NOT what weight they USUALLY wrestle at!

I understand the notable exception is always the "bump up" in a dual to create a better match-up but THAT is not what THIS is...

With kids of this quality, I don't think a difference of five pounds, has anything to do with the result at all.
