Sectionals is already a set bracket determined by your place at regionals.

Only tournament of the 3 individual post season tournaments that isn't seeded. Regional winners are randomly placed and receive a 1st round bye. 2nd and 3rd place from that regional are placed on the opposite side of their regional champ.

That's because there isn't anything to find about seeding sectionals...

Why on Earth do they just not use the state rankings for ALL seeding at these events? Provided there is a respected ranker it would be the easiest way. That is how they do it out here in Cali for state. Works great. And is super easy.

Illinois could EASILY seed the entire Individual and Dual Team State series starting at the Regional level all the way through Sectionals and State Tournaments, but the IHSA simply does not care enough about wrestling to do it. Side note, hope all is well Coach Pitts.

There are many, many, many things California does better/more efficiently than we do here. On the mat. And off.

As in only 1 state champ per weight.

Sectionals don't need to be seeded

Regionals are seeded, not by a 3rd party ranker, but by the coaches who know each others lineups like their own. Attend a seeding meeting and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Sectionals... seeding this 12-man bracket is moot. Regional Champs get first round byes and are opposite their Regional placewinners. It's a Full Wrestleback to 3rd. Even if the 3 toughest kids come from the same Regional or the two toughest kids are on the same side of the bracket, whichever round you might lose in, you'll still get a shot for 3rd. And even if you lose that 3rd place match, you still qualify for State!

State seeds the four Sectional champs (as well as their corresponding placewinners) in a fair, point based system. The IHSA in its seeding doesn't let some 3rd party ranker decide who is #1 and #2, but seeds by individual merit. Winners earn points from prior State Series placing and #of wins.

I don't have a problem with the IHSA system. Is it perfect? What is these days...
