Why are they 2A this year? I read earlier this was only a one year deal and back to 1A next year.

Congrats though.

Coal Citys enrollment went up so they got bumped. They along with a few others will be back down in 1A next year with the new classification standards. The town is very proud of this years team. 8 qualifiers, 2 state champs and a 3rd place finisher. The team also has a very good chance in bringing home more hardware in next weeks Team State. Go Coalers

Coal City was very impressive and also they seemed like a classy program with a community that really appreciates a good wrestling team.

coal city was an upgrade for 2A, hate to lose them back to 1A. Feel bad for the sandwich's and the Planos. Hope the new reclassification gets them back in 1A

Classification Status

Is the 40-30-30 definite? I saw some paperwork being passed out by coaches calling for a 35-35-30 split that showed better distribution of wrestlers than the 40-30-30 split. Coal City should petition up if their enrollment is increasing instead of dropping back down.

exactly why there is a 2A

Coal City example is exactly why there is a 2A. They can gradually build success instead of bumping up immediatly to big schools under a 2 class system.
