Umm that's a really good showing for Illinois. If u think its not u don't understand college wrestling. And the amount of Illinois wrestlers that placed and won national titles in D2, d3, NJCAA, NaIA, and NWCA is extremly impressive. Also given the amount of qualifiers illinois had which I think was somewhere around 17 and to place 6 almost 8 is awesome. Pennsylvania had 52! Qualifiers and only placed 7 more than Illinois. Not to shabby I'd say

The only thing about the number of Illinois all americans is that we have more high school wrestlers than any other state besides California. We should have more AA in my opinion.

It seems like we average 4-5 per year. Here's a look at the past 5 years.

2012 - 5
2011 - 3
2010 - 4
2009 - 4
2008 - 6

The only real "constant" is Pennsylvania as the national leader withh AA's . Years ago Iowa and Oklahoma ran supreme, before the modern era (1961 and beyond). Ohio lays claim to the second spot, normally, but that fluctuates with the other power states. Illinois usually runs in the top five and there are those who suggest it should do better? With only three D1 schools and an average of about 17 or so qualifiers it's tough to do any better than they have. That said, if Futrell had been able to wrestle the thinking is that the state might well have had a seventh AA thus tying the California output, not to mention about a fifth place finish for the Illini. Not too shabby!

Yep. I was only paying attention to the "Illinois" part of him attending college here.

Chris Ballard from Iowa Central placed fourth at heavyweight this past season. He's from Gage Park High School in Chicago.
