Girls Wrestling Amendment Survey

This Girls Wrestling Amendment Survey was completed by 49 respondents (or 49 out of 65) for a completion rate of 75%.

Summary
This group will be called the Illinois Girls Wrestling Coaches Alliance and a proposal to the boys wrestling amendment will be written for freestyle wrestling in the winter season.

The IGWCA will also create social media accounts and provide freestyle & folkstyle coaches clinics for free.

All-star teams will be created and these teams will compete in events with other states and also overseas.

The majority of coaches, 44 out 49 respondents, are planning to enter their girl wrestlers in the March IWCOA State Series.

Conclusion
The results of the Girls Wrestling Amendment Survey will form the foundation of a proposal written by Shannyn Gillespie, via Homewood-Flossmoor H.S. and via the IGWCA, to be submitted to the IHSA on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.

The aforementioned proposal/amendment will be sent to the IGWCA on Monday, October 15, 2018.

Three optional proposal/amendments will also be sent to the IGWCA on Monday October 15, 2018.

Recommendation
It is recommended that each coach also submit an amendment to the boys wrestling bylaws (via their respective AD & Principal) to ensure that girls are included in the IHSA bylaws.

(Currently, there is no language for girls wrestling in the bylaws of the IHSA for girls wrestling.)

14. Guidelines for Adding and Deleting State Series Programs
  1. The Board will entertain proposals to add a new state series when ten percent of the member schools engage in regularly scheduled competition in the sport or activity.
  1. When the minimum required participation level is demonstrated and proposals to add a new state series are considered, the Board shall (a) consider the growth potential of the sport or activity, (b) consider the equity criteria included In the classification policy in determining whether to add the proposed new series, and (c) consider factors such as budgetary implications and official availability.
  1. The Board will entertain recommendations from staff to consider deletion of an existing state series when less than ten percent of the member schools participate in the series and/or engage in regularly scheduled competition in the sport or activity.
  1. Annually, each state series that has less than ten percent of the member schools participating in the state series and/or engage in regularly scheduled competition in the sport or activity will be reviewed by the Board. The Board will then vote to either maintain each state series that has less than 10 percent participation or to remove the state series in a future year as determined by the board
