I'm pretty sure CCL is placing top 6 this year. So the average or below average guys for the big 4 teams need to do some damage in the wrestlebacks

That will make a difference. Now it is typically, 16-12-9-7-5-3.

The CCL will be won by the team with the most depth that wins the backside place matches. CCL now places to 6th place and all of those places will be important.

Strained tendon. He'll be back, probably next week. Irony right?

He's hoping to do big things in college and beyond so he can go down as the best CCL wrestler never to win a CCL title.

Glad to be hear that he will be back for regionals. Smart to let it heal. A doctor once told me that most major damage we do to our bodies are not the initial injury. It is what happens when we take a hit on an already weakened limb.

2014 Hampshire Regional
Now I have another, more extreme example to add to the list.

Marian Catholic had 7 champs and 8 finalists and did not win the tournament.

I apologize to those who are super-familiar with team scoring that this comment might be obvious, but while reviewing the ESCC tournament to try and figure out why a team with 8 finalists and 7 champions did not win it, I had a revelation. If you look at the 145 lb. bracket, you see that the #1 and #2 seeds both got byes and the #3 and #4 seeds did not.

Because the eventual champion won by decision in the semifinals, he did not get any bonus points for his first round bye. In contrast, the #4 seed won his first round match by fall. This gives him 2 bonus points in the first round.

It's fair to think that had the #2 and #4 seeds been reversed, The Marian wrestler might have picked up a fall in the first round.

Would it be reasonable to say that in a small tournament (<10 teams) you are better off NOT getting the #1 or #2 seed so you have a better chance of picking up bonus points in the first round?
