Larkin Schedule vs. Hinsdale Central Schedule

Hinsdale Central's timeline is so much more efficient. I hope the folks running Larkin take notice and follow suit. Taking 14 hours to complete a 16 man tournament and ending at 11:00pm is beyond nuts.

It may be the one and only time we WANT the IHSA to meddle in a schools business. The idea that an athlete will expected to be at a competition from 6:30 am to potentially close to midnight is irresponsible. But then again put IHSA and U46 problem solvers together and this doesn’t really surprise me.

Hinsdale Central
SESSION I
7:30 AM – Weigh-Ins
9:00 AM – Championship Prelims
10:30 AM – Championship Quarterfinals
12:00 PM – Consolation 1st Round
1:30 PM – Lunch

But in same breath...I think Hinsdale is being awfully optimistic about these rounds only taking 90 mins each. If they do squeeze that consolation round in, you’re looking at potential a 3 o’clock lunch break when those rounds finish up closer to 2 hours.

I agree with Hand Control. Except it's not 16 man brackets, it's 12 in each weight.

Brackets are set up as 16 man brackets but only are 12 man. This means even fewer matches need to occur throughout the day. Shaving time off of the breaks will definitely help HC end the day sooner. Hopefully, those, running 1 day will aim at a schedule similar to HC.

Yes you are correct, 16 man bracket 12 wrestlers. But to your point only 12 wrestlers. 14 hours is insane!

Each of those early rounds, with 4 mats, is equivalent to only 14 bouts per mat. Even if every bout went 6 minutes, that's 84 minutes. And when you get to the quarters where your top seeds take the mats, there'll be a lot of falls. 90 minutes is generous.

You know 6 min is match time not actual time it takes to complete the match. Out of bound, stalling and penalties, and other stoppages add on. Time in between matches on the mat. Signing bout cards and checking in also will come into play. 2 hours seems more realistic.

Also blood and injury time.

I still think 1.5 hours is optimistic. I think 1 hour breaks might not be necessary either. 30 min break would be good. Hopefully both tournaments fall somewhere in between the 2 time frames.
