Lucas Byrd Destroying State Champions

I was looking at some wrestling videos on youtube and came across one with Lucas Byrd versus a state champion from Minnesota named Jake Svihel. Come to find out, Svihel also had three runner-up finishes in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. In this video, Byrd gets the tech fall.

The ILLINI and Jeremy Hunter have accounted for a lot of success at 125, from Ott to Delgado. Now, with Jesse Delgado working with the team, that will likely get better. As you can see in the video, Byrd likes to go with an underhook. He can probably find some help with that from somebody on the staff as well.

I think he's gonna be pretty good.

GO ILLINI!!!

Last week, Jesse Delgado signed with the Cyclone RTC. He will be training and eventually transitioning into coaching staff.

The RTC's have become a viable means of attracting post grads and undergrads alike. Especially those becoming flush with funds.

Good for him! I expect Jesse to be back because he is ILLINI in his heart. I'm sure he will keep practicing with Zane Richards, so that they both can have big years. Financially, this is a smart move, but I just checked out the roster for the Cyclone RTC, and they list one athlete: Kyven Gadson. Not much of a practice partner for Delgado. He takes a short trip to Champaign, and he gets to tumble with Zane, who was seeded #2 at the WTT and had a great US Open.

Back to Lucas Byrd:

Here's another video of Lucas Byrd destroying a state champion. In this case, it's Anthony Clark of New Jersey, who won two state championships there and snagged a runner-up finish.

Clark was ranked #1 in the country at the time.

This match actually went to overtime, but I still think you can say that Byrd "destroyed" him because he put him on his back in OT. Nice to see state champions on their backs!

Neither have a chance of making the Olympic team, but there’s always the non/Olympic weight world championship to shoot for. Since Byrd likes techs I wonder how it will be when lee techs him.

I hate to ask, but what do the "Tats" say? They are un-readable in that font.

In a response to the tweet that is pictured above, somebody asked what the tattoos read. Lucas Byrd replied: "What I had I gave and the other arm it says what I saved I lost."

Sounds like we have another Warrior-Philosopher from Sparta on the team. Good news for us! Bad news for the other guys.

GO ILLINI!!!
