Despite being only 14 years of age, Toss Em Up Wrestling Academy’s Domenic Munaretto won the U17 World Team Trials last weekend in Las Vegas, clinching a berth at the World Championships in Rome.
“It honestly is a dream come true for me,” said Munaretto, an eighth grader from Barrington. “I’ve been looking for the opportunity to prove myself against top level high schoolers, and I really put it together this weekend against some of the toughest kids in the country.”
Munaretto was largely dominant in his performance, outscoring the 45 kg field 27-2 and capping off the weekend with wins in consecutive matches over Sebolt Wrestling Academy’s Haakon Peterson. In those contests, Munaretto dominated the hand fight, and was able to force several passivity calls throughout.
