DEKALB • Team Illinois, the defending national champions in Fargo at the Junior division from a year ago in Greco-Roman, held its state championships this past Saturday and has started the process of qualifying wrestlers for what they hope is a repeat championship.
Last year’s U16 team tied for eighth in Greco-Roman, but with their experience, mixed with the talent of returning Team Illinois members, a team title is a realistic goal and certainly one that is within reach.
Below are the results from the Greco-Roman State Championships this past weekend. Remember, the top three at each weight were automatic national qualifiers, and now members of Team Illinois, but these names do not include those who may have already punched a ticket to the FargoDome through an alternative qualifier, or those who will earn a qualification through any of the various qualifying tournaments remaining.
