who are the top MI wrestlers at each weight?

89_Dragon

From experience I'd have to say that Preston Poyner (Morton 215) and Kyle Chapai (Canton 189) are tough competition. Look for them both qualifying for state this year. Last year I think it was Morton's 103 that dominated the conference, but I could be wrong. Also watch for Andrew Zobac of Canton, that kid is going places!

Also, as a wrestler at Pekin I'd have to say that we have a pretty good team this year; and while we might not have the absolute best in the area at each weight class, we have alot of returning upper classmen, and have been going to alot of summer tourneys ;) Also, was Stenzel Limestone's Heavyweight last year? And was Meyer the tough 103 from last year?

the sophomore from canton is Chase Holloway he is pretty light, and might make 112 and give meyer a good match

pekin does not have the depth to hang with the top teams in the MI. no way in hell they can stay with Canton. Canton is returning a lot of good kids with a lot of post-season experience and i dont remember pekin having to many kids at sectionals like one or two i think. NO WAY THEY WILL BE AT THE TOP

This whole fight is getting a little ridiculous... We've got one person saying Pekin's going to dominate, and everyone else saying Pekin isn't going to be good at all. I think I'll solve this all by saying they're going to be in between. Canton will be the dominant team in the Mid-Illini this year, anyone who goes to summer tournaments can tell you that. Very few teams are as dedicated to practicing year round as they are, and although they're a pretty young team, most of the kids have been with the program since they were five or six. And there's still Metamora and East Peoria, who are both always strong teams. Then there's Morton, with Poyner and Meyer leading a small, but strong pack of kids. Right now Pekin's team is pretty young. They only have two seniors, and most of their lineup is made up of sophomores and juniors. I wouldn't count them out of the race quite yet though. Alot of them have been going to summer tournaments and camps, and there are a few tough new kids on the squad. I think the team has definitely improved since last year. An improvement from last year, while other Mid-Illini teams have lost some of their best wrestlers (i.e. Metamora, East Peoria, Washington), means that Pekin has a good chance at surprising people and taking a 3rd, maybe even a 2nd place title. It's just a personal opinion so don't everyone go crazy just because they disagree. And it's too early in the season to really tell anyways, so there's not really a point in arguing. Now this is a little off topic, but I was wondering, who from Illini Bluffs wrestled 215 against Pekin last year?

iceman000
11-22-2007, 11:10 AM
exactly right...couldnt have put it better...except i watched ep the other night and they looked very weak in the middle weights...so i dont see in the top of the of the mid-illini this year

Trent Depperman, he is still 215 and very improved, he's ranked 12th in single A

Washington only lost one wrestler last year..171 Abe Phillips, but yes he was their best wrestler, I just wanted to point out that when talking about wrestlers gone, you could not use a plural when talking about Washington!!

metamora is going to be tough this year. they lost a couple kids but they have depth but YES white and vancil are impossible to replace in that room. they wont be #1 but they will be top 3. My prediction for this year.
1-canton
2-ep or metamora
3-the other ep or metamora
4-pekin
5-morton
6-washington
7-limestone.

5 and 6 going either way not sure

Haha, sorry about that, sometimes I get a little ahead of myself. Hey, tell Depperman that Bolen said good job with improving like that. I know I saw him at Pekin's Parkside working out alot in the off season. I don't get to wrestle him this year though, I'm dropping to 189 next week.

Well Skull Eyes you were wrong. EP had a very good night winning all of the close matches. They wrestled a very good meet. The thing that hurt Canton the most was having their 103 pounder miss weight. He beat EP's in exhibition match. Not taking anything from Canton they are a tough team they just did not perform to their full potential.

hey skull eyes i thought ur beloved pekin dragons were going to beat IB. well i guess not since they lost yet again. go ahead and say so what brock hill won. he didnt wrestle anyone good. if he wanted to show how good he is she should have bumped up and wrestled ferman. o wait he would have got -----Beat---- by ferman

11-29-2007, 11:58 AM
Normally I don't like to get involved in forum fighting, but I'd have to say it was a pretty close meet. I'm assuming that both teams didn't have everyone where they could be, which accounts for the forfeits on both sides, but other than that, it all came down to about one match. Pekin still has alot of shuffling to do in its lineup, and some of our better wrestlers are out due to either A) Injury (TJ Hall, 171), B) Suspensions (Justin Colson, 135), or C) Failing Grades (Too many to count). So while I'm not saying that Pekin would have won if both teams had bolstered a full lineup, it would have been a better match up IMO. 41-33 in any case isn't that bad though. Alot better than last year!

Also, for anyone who's suspicious, skulleyes isn't Brock. Just someone related to him. ;)

im not a metamora fan at all im just going with the line up they had last year that was fairly young and just thought that they should be pretty good this year and i would not put morton 3rd not even close they only have two good kids with not a lot of depth
