This is just for fun, and stimulation. But based on the last rankings, if the wrestlers from this regional hold true to their ranking, they would acount for 12 placefinishers out of 84. The average regional (84 divided by 16 regionals) should have 5.25 placefinishers. They also have 11 other ranked wrestlers, and 17 honorable mention. Of course over the season, it will go down, as other wrestlers are discovered.

But does anyone know the regional and year that had the most place finishers produced from it???? I do remember that East Leyden team that had at least five state champions etc.

Would you be referring to the '78 team that had four (certainly impressive but albeit, less than five) state champions, or the '60 state champions that had two individual state champions on it????

In 1973 the old East Leyden district (before they called it "regionals")produced 3 state champs from 3 different schools, out of just 12 weight classes back then.

Rick Almada West Leyden 105lbs

Bill Hardnett Proviso East 119lbs

Bob Holland East Leyden 155lbs

You know you have it tough as a wrestler, when the top three in a specific weight class at a regional (district), finish 1 thru 3 at the state tournament. Any examples??

I know. You were refering to the 1978 team that had State Champions Dave Krist 126lbs, Randy Conrad 132lbs, Jim Farina 138lbs, Kurt Bankson Hwt, and 3rd place finisher Mike Garrett at 167lbs. That team set a state record for the old tournament of 129.5 points (back when they still had just 12 weight classes), and was the final year of 3 undefeated dual meet seasons for Coach Farina ('76-'78). What a team!
