My A.D. got this straight from the IHSA special announcement boards.

1/12/2005 Clarification of Wrestling Growth AllowanceThere is conflicting information printed in the Boys Wrestling School and Manager Manual regarding when the two (2) pound growth allowance will apply. For this year, this procedure will be followed. On Saturday, January 15, wrestlers will have a maximum of two (2) pounds allowed. There will not be a consecutive day allowance on top of the two (2) pounds allowed for the 15th. This means a 112 pounder may weigh 114 on Saturday, the 15th. After the 15th consecutive day, growth would start from the two (2) pound growth allowance. Only wrestlers who have made their scratch weight may receive the two (2) pound allowance.

To me this says that everyone gets only the 2lbs. on Saturday with no consecutive day allowance and starting next week you will get both. I hope this helps.

I am agreeing with your interpretation of this announcement, but this is written very poorly.

Just spoke with Mr. Gannaway and he said the same thing. The two pound growth allowance begins on Saturday, January 15 and two pounds is the maximum anyone may allow that day. Gannaway repeated what is mentioned in this post: "no matter if a team wrestled all week long, two pounds is all anyone will receive"; that is providing they have already made scratch at their certified weight. He also said that they will be more careful with the interpretation next season, as conflicting information was sent out and posted on the IHSA Web site. I hope that helps others and thanks for the help earlier!

so after saturday, conceiveably a wrestler could weigh in four pounds over weight, that is unreal!!!
If he wrestles thur, friday and then sat,
for instance a 125 pounder would weight in at 127 on thur, then 128 on friday and 129 on saturday, thats only one pound under 130!! thats a 130 pounder in my way of thinking.
I can see why some wrestlers ,wrestle up a weight class untill jan.15th. dosent seem right that someone weighing 129 can wrestle as a 125. do all states do it this way.

No, you get 2 lbs growth allowance after Jan 15th and then 1 lbs for every day you wrestle. Example: Friday at sectional weights are: 105, 114, 121, 127 etc.
Saturday they are: 106, 115, 122, 128 etc.

so if a wrestler, wrestles thur, friday and saturday,on saturday he could weigh in at 129 which is only one pound below 130,which is basically a 130 pound wrestler? Isnt the season only 4 months long? do we really need a 2 pound growth allowance for that short growing period?
Im not a doctor so i am not speaking from authority.but would maintaining a set weight for four months, cause any physical damage to a high schooler? I can see why some wrestlers would wrestle up a weight until jan 15th.

I just don't get it. The IHSA has put in this new weight control plan to make high school wrestling safer. Each wrestler is given the lowest weight that they can wrestle and by which day. If this is truly a safe weight for a wrestler to be at, then why is it necessary to give extra weight partially through the season?? Shouldn't you just get pounds if you wrestle on consecutive days? If you are going to give two pounds to a weight class, then a kid whose minimum weight on the test was 105 should now be able to wrestle in the 103(now 105) weight class. This kid is giving up 9 ponds to the 114 pounders. It is even worse at higher weights that have bigger splits in weight.
