Some of the language used by Mickey Pruitt, the chicago wrestling coordinator, talks about a team's season being "over" if they don't wrestle enough people at the city soph and varsity tournaments, or if their rosters fall below a certain level on either team.
Does anyone know if CPS really has the authority to keep a team from wrestling in the state tournament series if they weren't in step with some of these rules?
I mean, in coming years he will require you to have 12 competitors who actually wrestle on both teams. With eligibilty, injury, getting a lot of guys around the same weight, you never know if you'll have that many. I lost two wrestlers this week to injuries and a few more to grades. The bottom line is, I have a lot of great kids wrestling. But the reality is that I only influence them. Parents sometimes keep kids home on weekends, want them to get solid A's or they're pulled, or have family events, etc. Kids also become unreliable and must be benched for missing practice. Kids also work jobs and sometimes miss a match. They get sick. They get injured. This is not something in my "control." You may also have 15 varsity wrestlers, but not 15 different weight classes. I have four 119's and four heavyweights. They can't all wrestle.
Does CPS have the authority to pull a city team out of the state series if they can't comply with these rules?
