Dear friends,

My Husband and I have decided to tackle The P.F. Chang's Rock ‘N' Roll Arizona Marathon for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program in honor of Andy and Carie.

Andy is presently a student of the class of 2008 at St. Rita of Cascia High School in Chicago and a class mate of my son Kyle. We were first made aware of Andy's illness in April 2005. This was when my son, Kyle, was fighting for his life because he had been infected with a bacterial staph infection and meningitis, Kyle is a wrestler and the doctors feel this is where his infection came from. Thanks to the wonderful doctors at Christ Hope Children's Hospital, St. Rita and GOD, Kyle has made a full recovery. Knowing that Kyle's recovery was nothing short of a miracle I decided I wanted to show GOD how grateful I was, by helping others in need.

When I heard of Team in Training I immediately thought of Andy and his family, and I knew this was something I wanted to do for them. Months later we heard that Carie was also suffering from a blood cancer and at that time my husband Gene decided he too wanted to take on the Marathon in Carie's Honor. Carie is a recent graduate of Purdue University in Lafayette, IN , we are praying for both of these young adults full recovery.

Through Team in Training I have gotten the opportunity to learn, first hand, the challenges cancer patients undergo. Unfortunately I have also realized many lose their battles to this horrific disease. It is this realism that reinforces my dedication to help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society find a cure. I don't want any other parents to lose their children to this disease. Therefore, Gene and I are committed to raising $6800 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Andy and Carie's honor to support research and patient aid and help save lives.

With the donor dollars, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society receives, researchers have been able to develop a new drug called Gleevec (ST1571). Gleevec has been responsible for normalizing white blood cell count in cancer patients with CML (chronic myelogenous leukemia), thus creating a huge advancement in the fight against cancer. With our combined efforts, we can personally be responsible for finding a cure for these blood cancers and making a difference in the lives of patients and their families.

I realize, especially today, you are asked on a daily basis to contribute to various causes. Researchers believe that leukemia is the most basic of all cancers and finding a cure for it could serve as a foundation for establishing a cure for all cancers. Coupled with the strides that have been made in the last three years, your donation will only bring us closer to a cure.

I hope you are willing and able to contribute. If so, please make your check payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and send it to me before Oct 31 , 2005 if possible; however, we will accept checks later if it is more convenient for you. or you can make a donation On Line at www.active.com/donate/tntil/tntilTGriffi remember your donations are 100% tax deductible.

You will be with us every mile. Your name will be written on our shirts in a collage format; You literally will have sweat equity in this event. Our shirts (after a good cleaning) will be given to Andy and Carie as confirmation that they have a circle of friends from around the country that made a difference.

For Gene and I...the marathon is one day.
For Andy and Carie...the marathon is everyday
for you...your giving lasts a life time.

Thank you for your generosity.
