Wasn't all that impressed with Carl Sandburg....didn't wrestle like the dominate #1 team in the State. Ambrosino lost twice on the day and older Polz was losing to Hubbard wrestler before injury defaulting, Cusick won 4-3, B. Precin won a close one, etc. Probably just a bad day considering their accomplishments so far this year.
By far the funniest part of the day was the GBN assistant coach sprinting into the stands to track down a supposed scroundrel that was taping one of the matches. There were wrestlers and coaches from other teams in the area and apparently they were sure one of those teams had a spy in the stands! After lots of huffing and puffing, chest pounding, and dirty looks, it turns out it was a Sandburg parent taping their kids match. The stands got a kick out of that one! Even the GBN fans were a bit embarrassed!
Ref also warned the GBN bench coaches if he heard "one more thing out of any five of you, you're all gone!" Apparently they wanted the ref to call stalling more against the Hubbard wrestlers...how's that for the pure definition of irony!!
Hubbard wrestled hard but except for Hammons and their 171 pounder, they were pretty much out matched. Whoever Hammons fans in the stands are, they need to take a chill pill! WAY over the top! He'll be fine, let him wrestle on his own.

Wow!! Thats all you can say about a great dual.. The Dual came down to the last match of the dual with Cusick winning in the fianal seconds. I am impressed with Carl Sandburg.. I certainly respect thier wrestlers, Good luck to both teams!!

Wasn't all that exciting...not a big fan of GBN's wrestling style. 2 on 1's, lots of backing up, edge wrestling, defense, defense, defense. It was obviously frustrating for Sandburg so it must have worked. There was no way Cusick was losing that last match...and it wasn't as close as the score would indicate. Cusick controlled the whole match and gave up the final escape point with 1 second left to preserve the win and the dual.
The coach's actions in the stands hunting down the camera culprit (see previous post) was by far the most entertaining part of the day.

"The coach's actions in the stands hunting down the camera culprit (see previous post) was by far the most entertaining part of the day" How is that entertaining..!!??
Your eyes were in the stands instead of on the mat... I will assume your from Wheaton North, you show alot of disrespect for a good programs and Wrestlers . You had your chance last week, when the majority of the GBN wrestlers had the flu...!! Now they are starting to get healthy..

Remember what you do when you assume, you make an....oh, never mind.
I never said I didn't respect both teams/programs. Just my observations. I'd rather see offensive wrestling than defensive. Obviously you disagree and you're entitled.
You're right, probably a bit of a stretch to say the coach in the stands was the most interesting part of the day...but it sure was funny!

Attitude,
Instead of being un-impressed by one team, you should probably be impressed by both programs. Those were two of the top programs in the country that wrestled each other today. You’re not going to have a blow out when two fairly even teams of that caliber wrestle each other. What you call "Defensive Wrestling" is what usually happens when you have two even teams on the mat. It can also be known as "Good Wrestling". GBN matched up very well with Sandburg.
Last time I checked there has not been a "Dominate #1 Team" in this state for quite some time. Illinois is considered an "Elite Wrestling State" in this country for a reason. We simply have too much depth for any one team to dominate every opponent. Take a look at the IHSA State Dual Results from the past couple years. MC vs PC, St. Rita vs PC, PC vs Marist ....all duals decided within a couple points. You’re going to have to pull out some close duals at some point during an IHSA wrestling season. GBN vs. Sandburg today was a great example of that.

After all GBN was close to win vs Sandburg, last match was very good when you think that O'Connor is not even in the top 10 wrestelers as Cusick.
Sandburg is ranked in the top 10 in the nation, GBN is not, let see the truth
GBN one of the best teams in Illinois, good wrestlers and good program.
