The Jr Duke tournament for 1st and 2nd year wrestlers was run extremly well. We were out by 3:15 and my boys each got 3 matches a piece against others who were also 1st or 2nd year wreslters.
One downside... without mentioning any clubs by name, it seemed to me that some clubs brought VERY experienced kids, who definitely looked and acted like they had more experience than 1 or 2 years. I don't understand why coaches would enter these kids in the first place???

We can honestly say that we were not aware that it was a first and second year only tournament. It's not fair to either kid reallyboth families came to see good matches. The kids that had more experience understood that they couldnt wrestle. It wasn't printed on the flier we received so we werent aware of the situation til a few of the kids were questioned. As for most of our kids being questioned....that was a little sad. It seemed like everytime we won a match, I heard someone say....."Hard to believe that was a first or second year kid". One more comment about the tournament....I have no problem with the not calling a pin in the first period, but when wrestler "A" gets pinned 3 times in the first period by wrestler "B"....how in the world can you give the win to Wretler "A" when he pins wrestler "B" in the second...I saw it happen a few times on different mats (and many did not happen to my team). What they should have done rather was what Montini did at there rookie rumble. Call the pin, and have the match continue til the end of the 1st period. I think that is a more fair of running it.

Thank you for the compliments on our tourney. Including last years regional, this is the second tournament we've run. We would like to thank all the Jr.Duke parents, York wrestlers, and everyone else who volunteered their time to work it. We will also be holding the regional once again in a few weeks. Please, post any suggestions that you may think help for better tournament. We feel it went rather well, but feedback is always good.
As to the mistake with experienced wrestlers, that was taken care of immediatelly. No intention on any teams part, just some miscommunication. The coaches and wrestlers involved helped to alleviate the situation in a sportsman-like manner.
Thanks to all who attended, wrestled, worked , and enjoyed our tournament. And once again, please feel free to post any feedback or advice. The one about first period pins was excellent.
