First up for the Huskies will be a trip to Evanston to wrestle Northwestern on Friday night.
NIU spent its first three weekends of the 2006-07 season at national tournament, including last weekend's Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.
The Huskies feature four wrestlers in the nationally rankings, led by Johnny Galloway (165) who owns an 8-1 record this season and is 10th in the nation by InterMat and 12th by W.I.N. Pat Castillo (125), who placed sixth last weekend at the Cliff Keen, is 10-7 on the year and checks in as high as No. 13 in the country. Other ranked Huskies include Mike Grimes (17th at 149) and Duke Burk (18th at 184).
On Friday, NIU travels to meet 6-0 Northwestern. The Wildcats have four wrestlers in the top-10 nationally, including two top-ranked grapplers in Jake Herbert (184) and Ryan Lang (141). Heavyweight Dustin Fox is No. 3 in the nation and Mike Tamillow (197) is 10th.
The Huskies host their "Showcase Meet" at the Convocation Center Sunday against the 23rd-ranked Wisconsin Badgers (8-0). Six UW wrestlers are ranked nationally, led by Craig Henning (157) and Tyler Turner (149), both listed as high as No. 4. Also listed among the nation's top ten is Dallas Herbst (197) while Jake Donar (165), Kyle Ruschell (141) and Kyle Massey (Hwt.).
Last season, NIU defeated Wisconsin in Madison in a matchup that was decided in the final match.
Sunday's match time between NIU and UW is 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center. The individual matches will be held on a mat placed on an elevated platform, similar to the NCAA finals, as well as a spotlight, jumbotron video and music.
